Crime went up by 13% - mostly due to greater poverty, fewer police around due to budget cuts and the like - in my view. maybe the 'climate' created by Brexit too.

A lot of the 'hate crime' increase was committed against jews, gays and of course some muslims. The increase was not in any significant way fuelled by 'islamic terror'. If you think they would 'amid' means he wasn't calling cause and effect then you are at best being ingenuous.
amid: surrounded by; in the middle of.

The allegation was that the hate crimes were fueled by Trump's ignorant tweet. Yet, crime did go up 13%, and it was "amid" Islamic terrorism spreading around.

Wouldn't it be "ignorant" to say that Trump's tweet fuels hate crimes?

Are you being deliberately obtuse? The point of the post was Trump's comment on the rise of crime being attributable to 'islamic terror'. Given that it clearly wasn't if one knows anything about it, his comments could be seen as inflammatory.

No, I'm just saying that he didn't say it was "attributable" to it. So, it's not clear from the tweet that that's what he meant.

But, one outraged person did say that Trump was fueling hate crime by tweeting what he tweeted. Is he? Have hate crimes increased because of the same or similar tweets?

"Inflammatory?" Maybe - but they literally said that it was "fueling hate crimes." Are we really to believe Brits commit hate crimes because Trump tweets about the increase in crime rate occurring amid the spread of islamic terrorism - even if one interprets that to mean cause/effect?

The whole quote from the above link:

Donald Trump has been accused of fuelling hate crime with a tweet erroneously linking a rise in the UK crime rate to "radical Islamic terror".
He said crime in the UK had risen by 13% amid the "spread" of Islamist terror - despite the figure referring to all crimes, not just terrorism.
The Labour MP, Yvette Cooper, said the statement was "inflammatory and ignorant", while ex-Labour leader Ed Miliband said Mr Trump was "a moron".

Ed Miliband there. Famously know for his terse, tautological, yet obvious statements.

What I really want to know is who is Trump apparently quoting in that Tweet? Is this one of those shady "anonymous sources" Trump bewails all the time?

When is this shit-stirring little troll getting banned from the forum?

Of the 664 homicides recorded in the year ending June 2017, 34 resulted from the Westminster Bridge, Manchester Arena and London Bridge attacks - there were no such deaths last year. The attacks also accounted for the majority of the 426 additional attempted murders registered by police. Arrests for terror-related offences went up as well, from 226 to 379, across England, Wales and Scotland, though that number also includes people detained for far-right extremism.

So, the 13% rise did, in fact, take place "amid" the spread of Islamic terrorism.

Amid.

Labour MP Yvette Cooper, chair of the Commons Home Affairs Committee, said Mr Trump's comments could fuel hate crime. LOL. Really? Brits read a tweet accurately reporting an increase in crime "amid" the spread of Islamic terrorism which is, in fact, occurring, and Brits are, what? Going to run out and attack Moslems? If not, how, pray tell, will it "fuel" hate crime?

Labour MP Yvette Cooper also blamed Trump's tweet and things like it for increasing hate crimes by 30% in the UK. LOL. However, that rise is attributed at least in part to increased public awareness and changes in the law, which broadened the definition of hate crimes to the point that almost any verbal or physical assault can be categorized as one if the victim interprets it as such. It wasn't that Brits have become more prone to race and religion based attacks. Looks like her statement is "ignorant."

That is an interesting point. I have not seen any 'source' for the quotes in his tweet. Google doesn't help either. He may just be being his dumb self of course.

..and leave 42 alone. He may be argumentative but he is right now and again - and the forum would be very quiet without him.

..mind you, where he gets the time... :ask:
