The thing is, I've been trying to find a source that supports the statement "he used illegal fully automatic weapons" and I've been unable to find any. Perhaps Forty Two has a reputable source that says that, and if so I'd like to see it. As the video I posted on the last page shows, it is possible to produce a rate of fire that is all but indistinguishable from full automatic using legal modifications.

At half that distance the effectiveness (penetration through clothes into flesh) is greatly reduced. The distance from the 32nd floor to the audience is about 200m.
The police have changed their mind again (as they're forced to face the actual evidence), and now say he fired for between 9 & 11 minutes (too difficult to time it accurately from the many videos?). With such a flimsy weapon how did he kill outright 58 (yes, one came to life again) in that short time, while injuring hundreds more? There were no significant stampede injuries.
The way they spin it now, he had almost everything in his hotel room, short of a nuclear weapon. Even had his own video surveillance. If he didn't act then, he might have brought in an entire combat unit with field artillery!
But they still haven't tackled the thorny issue of many muzzle flashes & overlapping machine gun sounds from the 4th floor. They don't need to... the media only publish what they want & the public don't give a shit

Even a .22lr has lethal potential beyond 300m, even if it's not accurate. The Wiki link you provided quotes the lethal range as 900m. Didn't you even read it?
The "overlapping machine gun sounds" are the result of the sounds of the rounds splattering on the ground and the sounds of the actual gunfire delayed by distance.

And bullets from there would have scarcely less range than those from the 32nd floor, without the additional gravity assist - you were implying that such bullets could not kill.
