In the reddit discussion
Considering that the vast majority of people are religious - something that would be rejected immediately if people were capable of thinking critically - I have very little faith in humanity. Even those of us who think ourselves rational and objective make the vast majority of our decisions based on emotion, which sources we "trust" even if they are lying to us because they confirm our world view or cause the least amount of cognitive dissonance. That's why fake news is so effective, and Trump was elected. People are all too willing to believe something that they want to be true. Combine that with artificial intelligence and even the most rational person will be in a psychological and intellectual hall of mirrors.

Education is a long term if not generational solution. Short term we're probably fucked.
The easier solution to implement is censorship but in the wrong hands it will go horribly wrong, and it's way too easy for the wrong hands to take the wheel right now. So, while relatively easy to implement, it's damned near (if not outright) impossible to get right.
Something like a great firewall. Those turn out fantastic.
