The model you need to find for the best bet is the European model, not on the Americocentric spaghetti model about. Has the best track record.

Trying to find it myself. It's the ECMWF.

Don't know which is the most accurate, but this one would have to be the prettiest with Irma, gusting up to 220 km/h almost on top of West Palm Beach right now and child swirling at 130 km/h in tow.

The silly bint is two streets north of us, in the same subdivision. She has no TV (being a youngster she just youtubes everything), and doesn't watch the news. The older silly bint is a block south of us. All my eggs are in one basket.

Current models show it off the east coast but too early to tell. TURN YOU MOTHERLESS DUNG-EATING CUNT WHORE BITCH, TURN!

No matter what she does we'll get what amounts to a Cat 1, but that's not a problem (I hope) with my new drain and home-made flood control system.

That early turn is the key for us on the west side of the state too. If it shoots up the east coast, then over here it'll be stormy, but nothing to get in a twist about. My big worry was that it was going to sneak around the keys and go all "Punta Gorda" on the west side like hurricane roulette.

How'd the Netherlands Antilles and such make out? I assume they did the usual Dutch thing to "plan for the 10,000 year risk" and everyone was sipping Pina Coladas and wondering what all the fuss was about as Irma passed overhead....

I figure I'll ride it out here and when it passes take the dinghy up to the boat. It's in a very sheltered marina on floating docks, and is completely self-sufficient. Got water, power, A/C, fridge full of beer, and a functional shitter. What more could a man ask? At least I'll avoid the looters and zombies that are bound to show up.

Getting out of dodge is not really in the cards for us. It's not even recommended. There is no place for everyone to go, and those that evacuate are in the storm surge evacuation zones (closer to the ocean). Run from water, hide from wind.

Obviously, if someone has a relative in NC and they want to go visit, that's great. These storms are unnerving. But, the reality is that it's the storm surge that's the big issue, not the wind. The wind is certainly an issue for those nearer to the center where it makes landfall, but when you're 100 to 200 miles out from the center, there is no sense getting on the freeway.

I-75 was slow moving yesterday, and the thing isn't supposed to make landfall in Miami (if at all) until some time on Sunday. I can't imagine what it's like trying to get from Miami or say Naples and up I-75 to get out of the state. It's like 400 (643 km) or so miles to go from Miami to Valdosta, Georgia (just at the Fla. Ga. line). And, nobody can stay in Valdosta, because it's a small town of like 56,000 people, and cannot house millions of evacuees. For people to really find accommodations, they have to get all the way to Atlanta and parts north, so you're talking 660 miles (like 1060 km) to have any chance of getting a hotel or something. And, those may already be booked, so you're really talking about heading up to Tennessee, the Carolinas, or parts west and even farther north. I.e., it's not necessarily safer to put the family in the car.

It's great to get out if you can do so well in advance and have comfortable family to stay with. Otherwise, it's better to stay put, and if necessary proceed to one of the many hurricane shelters to ride out a rough patch.

We have our supplies of food and water. We have a fairly new house built for hurricanes. Looks like Irma is going to jog up the east coast of the state, and give Georgia or the Carolinas a "how do you do." I'm thinking we won't get much over here on the wes' sigh-yeeed. Maybe a sold storm. Local weather is predicting partly cloudy on Tuesday and Wednesday. So....

We'll be getting some rain from Katia over the next couple of days, really don't need the additional water. So far the new drain seems to be working well, it's still draining groundwater from the back yard. We'll be OK if it goes up the east coast, but my old mates in Daytona will get hammered again.
