Yes, the difference between the lowest point in the yard and where the house starts is drastic. When I took that picture, if I would have stepped off the porch and walked toward the back of the yard, I would have been in water over my waist before reaching the fence.

Here is the end of the street after the water has receded a lot this afternoon.

We wore gators in cadets at school. Had to polish 'em a nice shiny black, or the sergeants would be brutal with their sarcastic remarks...

We were issued with gators and instructed to keep them well polished too. After the third incident involving damaged brushes and missing fingers the CO ordered a recall. With the efficiency the military is so well known for, the gators were indeed withdrawn from use and replaced by gaiters one year and eight more incidents later.
