Yeah, small fry.

That's how Hitler's defenders started on the 24th of February 1920 at the Hofbräuhaus, except the dozen, or so, communist hating brawlers were armed with nothing but rubber truncheons and knuckledusters. Collectively they were known as Saalschutzabteilung (meeting hall protection detachment). 18 months later they became more famous as the SA, and there were more than 30,000 of them by 1925, and five years after that there were 400,000. Having outlived their purpose, Hitler more or less abandoned them in 1934. Their successors started off as a branch of the SA in 1925. That organisation was the Protection Squadron, Schutzstaffel in German, and best known by its acronym, SS.

But remain in your contented slumber. Nothing like that could possibly happen in the USA, especially not while you have a president in office who is so decidedly opposed to anything alt-right.

Braving the crossfire between Nazis and those who oppose them, everyone, literally, I managed to make it to one of the few remaining bookstores in America. Only to encounter more violence.

So, nothing like the above could ever happen in the USA?

Also, love the coincidence. America's gun comes from the same country as Alois Schicklgruber's infamous son.

Sure, anything's possible I guess.

I think we're fucked because we like to live an unsustainable lifestyle, and that this attitude has grown up at the same time as a great optimism for innovation. It's sure to swoop in to save us at just the right time.

Maybe the Nazis get us first? :dunno:

Maybe. Maybe not. Either way, downplaying ("What's that, 10 fucking nazis?") the significance of a few thousand activist fascists in your country is not the wisest move I can think of. By the time you take the development seriously it may be too late to do anything about it.

Well, nobody's ever accused me of being wise Hermit.

I'll consider what's been said.

Even given some controversy about whether antifa is being wise when they indulge in pitched battles with the neo-Nazis and their ilk, the general position seems to be that any right-wing rally is guaranteed to have a large contingent of counter demonstrators (only some of them antifa, and many being committed to non-violent protest only). This, I think, is a good antidote to the pessimism that might tend to arise from the increase in right-wing activity in the US, and its tacit support by the Trump administration.

I like the way the media uses words so craftily when talking about these marches.

One side are called nazis and fascists, and the other side are called anti-fascist protesters.
Who can object to anti-fascists?
But to be even handed, if you call one side fascists, then the other side should be called commies.
Or if you call one side anti-fascist protesters, then you should call the other side anti-commie protesters.

If you were even handed, the viewers would get a much different impression of what was going on.
And more accurate.

America doesn't like fascists. But it HATES commies.
That's why the media are so careful with the labels.

And it shows how gullible the US viewing public is, that they can be so manipulated by a few words.
While there is a market for shit, there will be assholes to supply it.

What kind of fucking retarded logic is that? They were literally nazis. Even Republican politicians spoke out against them (and Trump's equivocation). Are you going to tell us that Republicans are commies because they are anti-fascist?

That's like the definitive example of what a false dichotomy is. :hehe:
