I actually think the French have pitched it about right. If you treat Trump like a god he's far more likely to pay attention to you than if you treat him like a regular Joe.

Tero wrote:"There is nothing wrong with Russia digging up dirt on Hillary."(42)

Why did we do all this:
On December 29, 2016, the U.S. government announced a series of punitive measures against Russia.[225][226] Namely, the Obama administration imposed sanctions on four top officials of the GRU and declared persona non grata 35 Russian diplomats suspected of spying:[227] they were ordered to leave the country within 72 hours. Further sanctions against Russia were announced, both overt and covert.[120][229][230] A White House statement said that cyberwarfare by Russia was geared to undermine U.S. trust in democracy and impact the election.[231] President Obama said his decision was taken after previous warnings to Russia.[232] On December 30, two waterfront compounds used by families of Russian embassy personnel were shut down on orders of the U.S. government, citing spying activities: one in Upper Brookville, New York, on Long Island, and the other in Centreville, Maryland, on the Eastern Shore.[226][233][234] They had served as luxury retreats for various Russian diplomats over several decades.[235] In June of 2017, the US senate passed bipartisan sanctions legislation 97-2, after U.S. intelligence agencies determined Moscow had deliberately interfered in the 2016 presidential campaign. The bill would also require a congressional review if the president tries to ease or end current penalties.[236]
Uhhh...yeah, right.... as I said...there is nothing wrong with Russia digging up dirt on Hillary.

There is something wrong with them breaking the law in doing that or anything else. There are plenty of non-illegal ways to "dig up dirt" and obtain information on people. That's the bulk of what the intelligence reports on this issue have said Russia was doing - propaganda - disinformation - and other actions that are legal, but directed toward influencing or affecting American politics.

I was not suggesting that illegal hacking was o.k.

This buying dirt (or trading) on Hillary is kind of like a drug deal. You give your money to one guy. Then you go in the alley. The first guy calls the alley guy. You get the drugs from the alley guy and walk away. The drugs guy never holds money.

Substitute "delete sanctions" for money and we have: Trump campaign.

Nobody has alleged that anyone paid money for dirt, did they? Natalia didn't have any dirt to sell.

No sanctions have been deleted.

This is all just so much bullshit, it's hard to find a place to step anymore.

But the Justice Department investigation is still unfolding. If it were to come to light that Russian officials did consult Trump campaign officials about the timing or tactics of the release of the stolen emails, that could raise the possibility of conspiracy charges under Section 1030 of Title 18, which bars unauthorized computer intrusions, specialists said.

Unknown source
Name a single fucking job where you'd rather have an "outsider" in charge, you goddamn children.

And now here we are, with a president-elect who has no idea what goes into the day-to-day logistics of running a government. A president-elect who has, on multiple occasions, expressed disinterest with certain parts of the job he was trying to get. A man who has never taken an economics class or gone to law school or shown any competence in foreign affairs is going to run the United States. This is the man who is going to fill the shoes of scholars before him -- and he's about to learn how goddamn hard and boring that task really is.

Because being president is not like the TV and movies say, you know. It's dull, and it's filled with paperwork and minutiae and patience. It's a brainy, nerdy job that requires constant attention and devotion. You have to love it.

On his first meeting with Obama, Trump was apparently so overwhelmed by the position that our soon-to-be-ex-president agreed to spend extra-special time tutoring him on the job. As one blogger recently pointed out, the best revenge Obama could have taken was to treat Trump as an equal and assume he knew the functions of the Executive Branch. Instead, Obama took pity on this toasted clown of a man. Because that's what a real president does -- he shows humility and thinks about the bigger picture, and doesn't act like some petty fucking nobody.

Imagine walking into an airport, screaming that you should get to fly the plane, and then, to your complete dumbfuckery, having that demand fulfilled. Suddenly you're sitting at 40,000 feet in front of a massive jumble of switches and lights and have no clue what to do. That would be a nightmare. For everyone on board.

They need to get something first! Like tax cuts!
Discouraging: The major weakness these six months have revealed in our governing system is almost too obvious to mention, but I’ll name it anyway. It is the refusal, so far, by any significant Republican figure in Congress to apply to Donald Trump the standards its members know the country depends on for long-term survival of its government. A system of checks and balances relies on each of its component branches resisting overreach by the others. The judiciary has done its part; Paul Ryan’s House and Mitch McConnell’s Senate have not. We’re seeing the difference that can make.

If Trump’s White House were dictating a legislative agenda to their party-allies in Congress, he would merely be replicating what strong presidents from Franklin Roosevelt to Ronald Reagan tried to do. But Trump has barely any legislative proposals. What he has dictated instead is standards—a toleration for his own disregard of norms—and has reduced the set of standards that Republicans apply down to one: loyalty. There’s a reason Donald Trump could joke about shooting someone on Fifth Avenue and not losing any support, and a reason talk-show hosts wonder what, finally, it would take for Republican senators or representatives to stand up to him. So far, many GOP legislators have expressed “concern” or “discomfort” with Trump’s words and comments. But they’ve stood with him when it mattered, in votes on the floor and in committee, to avoid investigations, subpoenas, or hearings into the matters that “concern” them so.

File this in the "malicious incompetence" folder, I guess: "The White House just posted the emails of critics — without censoring sensitive personal information"
The White House just responded to concerns it would release voters’ sensitive personal information by releasing a bunch of voters’ sensitive personal information.

Last month, the White House’s “election integrity” commission sent out requests to every state asking for all voters’ names, party IDs, addresses, and even the last four digits of their Social Security numbers, among other information. The White House then said this information would be made available to the public.

A lot of people did not like the idea, fearing that their personal information could be made public. So some sent emails to the White House, demanding that it rescind the request.

This week, the White House decided to make those emails from concerned citizens public through the commission's new website. But the administration made a big mistake: It didn’t censor any of the personal information — such as names, email addresses, actual addresses, and phone numbers — included in those emails.

In effect, the White House just released the sensitive personal information of a lot of concerned citizens giving feedback to their government. That’s made even worse by the fact that the White House did this when the thing citizens were complaining about was the possibility that their private information would be made public.

As of Friday afternoon, the emails are still uncensored and available on the White House’s website. They include all sorts of feedback, from concerns about privacy to outright insults of the Trump administration. One email just links to an image of the terrifying pornographic meme Goatse. (Do not Google this if you value your eyes.)

“DO NOT RELEASE ANY OF MY VOTER DATA, PERIOD,” said one person whose full name and email address were subsequently released in the collection of emails.

The White House website does now warn about the possibility of personal information going public: “Please note that the Commission may post such written comments publicly on our website, including names and contact information that are submitted.” But it’s not clear if the people who sent emails to the White House knew of this before the commission’s website went up this week.

Our jails are full of journalists and reporters convicted of exactly that crime. Oh wait, no there's not  Even Nixon couldn't jail the watergate reporters.
A rational skeptic should be able to discuss and debate anything, no matter how much they may personally disagree with that point of view. Discussing a subject is not agreeing with it, but understanding it.
