I thought the prognostications were that Labour was going to be out of power for 2000 years thanks to Corbyn? According to that thesis Cameron should have been able to do whatever he wanted.DaveDodo007 wrote:I agree with your first paragraph, even as a conservative I didn't like Cameron but given the anti EU sentiment of the country I don't think he had much of a choice.Rum wrote:The terms are relatively meaningless. 'Hard' simply means that the UK will be subject to the default international trading regulations regime rather than some tailor made arrangement with the EU. Nobody seems to have the evidence available as to the outcome of either path, though there is a gut reaction that the 'hard' route will be a tougher one. Frankly I have not seen any evidence either way - just fear tactics.
I blame fucking Cameron who started the whole palaver going.

Re: Hard Brexit or Hard Brexit
Speaking to three Dutch politicians yesterday evening after a debate on the British and Brexit. These were the spokespeople appointed by their parties to speak on Brexit.
One had been in the EU headquarters all week and things dont look good for the UK. A hard Brexit (crashing out) seems to be on the cards. Every one is annoyed with Davis and his attitude.
Another one had been to Northern Island last week to discuss the border question and she was very worried about the situation. Things are under great tension and May's deal with the DUP has not helped. She was told any formal hard border would not be acceptable and would lead to trouble.
Although the Dutch are a big loser in Brexit and half our trade is with the UK we are not going to give any support to the UK saying EU unity is more important.

Re: Hard Brexit or Hard Brexit
This hard and soft Brexit terminology is bollocks, and should never be used by the vote-leavers (the majority).
The actual choice is REAL Brexit, or FAKE Brexit.
Real Brexit is when you leave, become an independent country, and control your own borders, and obey your own laws and courts.
Fake Brexit is anything less than that. It's the worst of all worlds. You leave but don't leave. You give up the advantages of membership, and hang on to the things that made people vote leave.
If I was negotiating, I would simply say that our borders and courts are not up as bargaining chips. We can by all means discuss them, and aim at the best solution for all, but that is common sense and goodwill, and not part of any deal. We can change them without notice, because we will be independent.
The border in Ireland doesn't have to be a problem. You can have an invisible border in Ireland, since that's what everybody wants.
You just shift all of the thorough customs checks to the internal border between Northern Ireland and the rest of the UK.
If illegal migrants try to use Ireland as a back door to the UK, they can cool their heels in NI without benefits or any rights to work.
I doubt if many would be attracted by that. It's a lot colder and wetter than Calais.

I live a few minutes from the beach AND I have not one but two big fuckoff spiders as pets. Both of them are completely harmless, though, and they live on the back patio.

The much smaller redbacks elsewhere in the garden can be deadly, but ass long as you leave them alone they leave you alone. Until April 2017 nobody has been killed by one for 37 years. Statisically speaking you have a much better chance dying prematurely by living in a highrise apartment block in the UK. Fucking horrible country. Nothing but constant budget cuts and drizzle alternating with rain.

Border control, border control, blah blah. We've always had control of our borders.mistermack wrote:The actual choice is REAL Brexit, or FAKE Brexit.

Always banging on about border control when your average Brexit-voting coffin-dodger can barely exercise bladder control.
If we had the referendum again, Remain would win, simply by virtue of hundreds of thousands of Leave voters having died off since the last vote.
