I love it how the traditionally whackjob conservative right have woken up to the fact that their actual policies are incredibly unpopular and they are all clamouring to outdo each other in proving that they are a champion of the common man (like Trump purported to be). Under previous Labour governments, this was by design. I worked in a job centre for a time, and perfectly able people would request to be moved "on the sick" because it paid more money than Jobseekers' Allowance. Obviously the government planned this, because it enabled people to be removed from the unemployment figures. The knock-on effect was a massive increase in the numbers of illegitimate claimants. Doubly unfortunate because it enabled aspersions to be cast upon those genuine claimants who were now the subject of unreasonable suspicion.
