That's the fascinating issue. How in the world can it make sense to them? What they say is bizarre, irrational and simply unintelligible.

Remember, though, that you used "leftists" in the title of this thread. Not, "idealistic youth".
Because they're leftists, not mere "idealistic youth" of a cross-section of ideological viewpoints. Maybe that's what's angering those here who consider themselves on the Left. The fact that it's leftists who are creating this bizarre and surreal picture....

You tried to draw a parallel between left leaning people in general and a bunch of hormonal kids and now you're trying to backtrack.
I haven't backtracked one iota.

There's also a hint in your title that this is madness and not angst.
Something is amiss.
Something has gotten into these wackos to make them this wacko. Some theories are out there - like the influence of postmodernism and Marxist theory; however, I can't believe these freaks are educated enough to understand either of those items consciously.

You have, of late, been trying your best to show the left as been the ones who are crazy to justify your monumental mistake of backing and supporting the current, poisonous, right-wing ideology which is bringing your country to its knees and making the US a mockery on the World stage. I believe some call that "gaslighting".
Trump was less right wing than any other Republican candidate. I, however, do not have to "show" that the left are crazy. They are showing that themselves.
Gaslighting is trying to make someone think they're nuts. These people are nuts. Either that, or they're idiots. Or both. I'm not trying to gaslight them.

You are becoming desperate and attacking college kids to make some sort of universal point about the left is clutching straws.
They're not kids. I wasn't a "kid" in college, and neither are they. And, the left is clutching at straws. This is just one aspect of it. And by left, I mean the hard left, not the left of center moderates, or liberals.

I can't find it, the search words are too ubiquitous, but you once posted, when criticising Obama, that if Trump turned out to be a bad President you'd be no less relentless. Yet here we are.
He's been President for four months, so I don't think we can judge him a success or failure. This came up under Obama, and years into his first term, folks were saying it's too soon to judge. Well, at least give Trump a year to sort some things out. And, I don't care about the bells and whistles or the niceties. I don't care if he says the right thing or puts ketchup on his steak, or calls the President of Taiwan and questions the One China Policy, etc. I don't care if he "calls out" NATO. This stuff is window dressing. It's not important.

The thing that was interesting in the class was every time the professor said ‘Al Qaeda’ his shoulders went up, But you know, it is that you don’t say ‘America’ with an intensity, you don’t say ‘England’ with the intensity. You don’t say ‘the army’ with the intensity,” she continued. “... But you say these names [Al Qaeda] because you want that word to carry weight. You want it to be something.” - Ilhan Omar
