It's not beside the point for them to be (a) Comey is a great FBI guy in July 2016, and he rightly closed his investigation of Hillary, proving her innocent - so vote for her, and then (b) Oh, he reopened the investigation, so he's in the camp of Trump, trying to torpedo Hillary by investigating the bogus allegations against her, (c) we've lost confidence in comey and he has failed to execute his position as FBI chief properly and should resign and he needs to be out of there, and (d) it's unethical and improper to fire Comey, even though he serves at the pleasure of the President, because if Trump fires him that means that Comey was not in the tank for Trump to get him elected and hurt the Democrats, but rather he was dutifully toiling away at a proper and well-founded investigation of Trump wrongdoing.

Don't look at Hillary's possible wrongdoing. Look at Trump's possible wrongdoing. If you look at Hillary's possible wrongdoing, we want you gone and you should resign and we have no confidence in you and you are a scummy FBI chief. Boo! If you look at Trump's possible wrongdoing you are a champion of the people and it is wholly unethical to remove you from your good offices, good sir, we salute you!

There is no evidence of any Trump-Russia wrongdoing. Is there? Maybe there is. I'm sure you'll present it. It certainly isn't in any of the "reports" and "intelligence" that we've seen published and have discussed to date. Oh, the Russians have continued their decades old habit of propaganda and attempts to influence the election in the US? Really? Oh, my god! I would never have thought that! Such a scandal! Of course there's a basis. Three major organisations are investigating the Trump team for potential treason. Focussing on the Democrats is absolutely a red-herring. The Democrats have nothing to do with whether the Trump team colluded with Russia to subvert US democracy.

There is no ongoing criminal investigation of Trump or his campaign. Period. There isn't one.

Comey testified to Congress that the FBI is involved with a counterintelligence investigation, which is not specifically targeted at the Trump campaign (although he did say that the counterintelligence investigation "include" members of the Trump campaign, although there was no indication that there is any reason to think any members of the Trump campaign did anything wrong).

That's the testimony I referred to, and he most certainly does not say that he is investigating Trump or Trump's campaign. He refers to the "counterintelligence mission" of the FBI and refers to counterintelligence investigation multiple times. There is no investigation of Trump or Trump's campaign

You cited a news article which creates an incorrect headline which does not adhere to what Comey actually said. He said that the DOJ authorized him to say that the FBI is invesigating - AS PART OF ITS COUNTERINTELLIGENCE MISSION - the Russian effort to interfere in the 2016 Presidential election.

As I very clearly noted, that would "include" the Trump campaign - but that is not the same as saying the Trump campaign is implicated. Obviously, a counterintelligence investigation would "include" anyone involved with the Russians. You're not paying attention to the precise language being used.

If, indeed, it's so clear that Trump is under investigation, then why were both Senator Grassley and Senator Feinstein asking for Comey to be clear on who, in particular, is being investigated?
