If there are going to be private insurers, they need more competition. What's happened is now there are often just a couple of options for people in various areas. If we can't have an effective market, then there is no point to pretending we have a private health insurance industry.Tero wrote:so says the conspiracy theorist. It is actually the healthcare industry together with insurance that are out there maximizing what they can charge you. because they can. It's almost like cable TV, except you do not die giving up that. It's the government reporting bureaucracy that is driving up costs for physicians for paperwork compliance.
“When I was in college, I took a terrorism class. ... The thing that was interesting in the class was every time the professor said ‘Al Qaeda’ his shoulders went up, But you know, it is that you don’t say ‘America’ with an intensity, you don’t say ‘England’ with the intensity. You don’t say ‘the army’ with the intensity,” she continued. “... But you say these names [Al Qaeda] because you want that word to carry weight. You want it to be something.” - Ilhan Omar

It's like cable TV. Whoever gets the cable to your house can screw you. You can get satellite, but then the Internet bundle...

It's not just pre-existing conditions.
You can have insurance, and be covered, but it runs out if you get a long-term condition.
I know, because some of my cousins had that problem. A family member had good cover, got cancer, and eventually he was no longer covered and the extended family chipped in to fund his treatment, as much as they could.
So if you're American, don't assume that you're covered. You are, but it's limited.
Sooner or later, even if your cover is pre-existing, your condition BECOMES pre-existing. And then you're fucked.

While there is a market for shit, there will be assholes to supply it.
