I know it hasn't worked in the past, therefore we should definitely try it... but they (US and China) should carve the North up. The southern half should join a united Korea, and the northern/western part should become Chinese. That way they keep a bit of a buffer between them and the west, and the North Koreans with Stockholm Syndrome can go and live under authoritarian rule in the Chinese part.

Should have been done ten years ago. I blame the Chinese.
Doing nothing is a great strategy generally, until nuclear weapons come into the frame.
After that point, doing nothing can be the worst option.

At the moment, what might happen if you do something looks pretty awful.
But what might happen if you do nothing is diabolical.

I suppose the Chinese have been hoping that things would change politically in North Korea, given time.
That's been a disastrous gamble on their part.

I would try one last attempt to force change. Demand that every country stops all trade with NK, including China. If they don't agree, bomb the fuck out of their nuclear facilities, and any conventional installations that point at the south.

Well China have just rejected the coal imports of NK and are losing patience with fat boy. Both China and Russia want a buffer zone from the USA just not the wild card they have been given. It is all a game of poker from now on.
