The PVV is dead. With Wilders the only member the haemorrhaging seen by previous sort like parties will not be visible. Any one who leaves is just replaced by another stooge.

If it's dead, how did it increase to 20 seats?

Still enough idiots around even here. 19 or 20 does not mean much. A waste of voting as it will not achieve anything. Party is strapped for cash as well. It is lucky for him that the state is paying for his personal protection.

Re: Netherlands Election 2017
20 doesn't mean much, but it is an increase of 5 over their last election and 8 or 9 over what they had yesterday. That's a large percentage increase for the PVV. Given that the biggest winner has what? 30 or 33? It sounds rather impressive for a "fringe" party. But, that's just me viewing it from afar. If you say they're dead, maybe they are. From Wilders' comments, though, it doesn't seem as if he's bent or broken.

It's a good thing white supremacy isn't taking hold in Europe. Someone's going to have to liberate the Americans after they become a thdirect government becomes a threat to the World. We can't afford a fractured Europe when we join China, Canada, Japan and Mexico to fight the Russo-American threat.

Re: Netherlands Election 2017
Wilders is broken. He will never recover and this was his last chance saloon. The coalition arising out of these elections will be stable. We have various options but a very interesting one is a minority coalition supported by different fractions at different times. This is actually a system used in many town councils. It spreads responsibility around creating an even more consensus government. Town councils here are almost never adversarial. That is something for anglo-saxons to get their mind around.rainbow wrote:Tossers support other tossers, what is so remarkable about that?Forty Two wrote:20 doesn't mean much, but it is an increase of 5 over their last election and 8 or 9 over what they had yesterday. Re: Netherlands Election 2017
How does increasing his seats in parliament to 20 mean he's broken? Seriously. Not sure I understand why this is considered a loss. How many seats would be a win for PVV?

More seats than anyone else? To answer a silly question.Forty Two wrote:How many seats would be a win for PVV?
Personally I was delighted with the Dutch election result. Though I would be a natural D66 voter, VVD are still a liberal party, so this is the best realistic result possible from my perspective. Wilders and the PVV have unfortunately dragged VVD (and Dutch political discourse) towards a less moderate and liberal position over the years, so the sooner he and his gang of horrid fascists disappear from the scene, the better.

Re: Netherlands Election 2017
Well, then it would stand to reason that he was "done" and over in the last election, when the PVV won 15 seats only. Now they've won 20. There are other parties who, of course, only won some seats -- only Rutte's party got more seats than anyone else, and they lost seats from last time. They definitely didn't come anywhere close to a majority.Strontium Dog wrote:More seats than anyone else? To answer a silly question.Forty Two wrote:How many seats would be a win for PVV?
The point is, it looks like PVV is still trending up, and getting more and more seats each election. So why is this particular election being hailed as the death of Wilders' political aspirations?
Perhaps so, but since they gained seats, rather than lost seats, doesn't it stand to reason that they are gaining in power and popularity, not in their death throes of politician whose influence is waning.Strontium Dog wrote: Personally I was delighted with the Dutch election result. CDA and D66 got only 19 seats to PVV's 20. Why, then, is the news reporting that PVV "tumbled" and VVD soundly trounced the PVV, but they do not report that the VVD trounced CDA and D66? Why is the PVV "dead", but the CDA and D66 are apparently doing great, even though they were beaten by the PVV?
Moreover the VVD lost 8 seats -- they lost 20% of their seats. PVV won 15 seats in 2012 and are up 33% to 20 seats. And, they got second most, with only VVD getting more.
Articles like this are common - http://nltimes.nl/2017/03/15/votes-vvd- ... -exit-poll - yes, VVD won in the sense of getting the most seats, but they don't have anywhere near a majority. They say PVV tumbles, but that must mean "tumble" means gain a significant number of seats, but not the most its ever won. I mean, the most the PVV ever got was 24 seats. This year they got 20, and that's an increase. So, they call that a "tumble?" The CDD and D66 gained like one or two more seats each than the PVV gained, and they had big scores, but the PVV "tumbled?"
Weird reporting.

You cant get your head around Dutch politics can you? Typical anglo-saxon only thinking in winners and losers. It does not matter what Wilders does he is dead meat as nobody but nobody will work with him. I will repeat for clarity: he is dead meat as nobody but nobody will work with him. Understand? I dont think so.
He is not wanted in Dutch civilised political society. So like all Brexiteers and right wing gits stop trying make something out of a saggy arse.

Re: Netherlands Election 2017
That is factually wrong. The PVV gained 5 seats in this election, but it lost 9 in the previous one. I pointed this out to you here. Are you into alternative facts? It seems to be something right wingers are particularly fond of.Forty Two wrote:The point is, it looks like PVV is still trending up, and getting more and more seats each election.
Nobody denies that the PVV is five seats better off now than during the previous parliamentary term, by the way. Scott is merely arguing that the party has a snowflake's chance in hell of becoming part of a coalition government. Despite its five seat gain it is destined to remain on the fringe among policy makers, at least in the foreseeable future.

Re: Netherlands Election 2017
In the next four years it will melt away. Probably still exist in certain pockets of local government; the odd counsellor as did Fortuyn's party still does which is the usual end for these one trick horse parties. Coalition discussions will start next week. Everybody has a free week end.

Re: Netherlands Election 2017
Because success is relative. The Christian Democrats and Social Liberals gained 6 and 7 seats respectively. The opinion polling was saying for ages that Wilders' fascists were going to win the most seats, but in the end they finished 13 seats behind the Market Liberals.Forty Two wrote:CDA and D66 got only 19 seats to PVV's 20.
