Here Comes the 'Societal Collapse' Pence Warned Us About

Post by L'Emmerdeur » Sat Mar 04, 2017 6:59 am

Mike Pence's knowledge of history is shit, as he's demonstrated on the floor of the House of Representatives. From his vast ignorance on the subject, he pontificated when talking about same-sex marriage that "societal collapse was always brought about following an advent of the deterioration of marriage and family."

The first signs of this societal collapse have been observed by some scientists: "Same-sex marriage legalization linked to reduction in suicide attempts among teens"

Fewer marginalized teenagers trying to kill themselves? We're all going to hell in a lavender handbasket, I tells ya.

I'm so sick of these conservative douchebags. If conservatism manifests in the brain perhaps it is a genetic trait. We should try and breed them out of the gene pool.

Some people are more susceptible to fear than others, and the majority of appeals from political conservatives--and much advertising--are fear appeals. Political persuasion rarely offers 'a brighter day' message, favouring 'our opponents will bring about a darker day' message instead. This often succeeds in swinging undecided voters by persuading them to vote against 'the dark side'. The prospect of things being worse in the future with Y rather than X is a powerful persuader for X and it leads to the kind of self-reinforcing thinking that has people believing that no matter how shitty things turn out for them under X they probably would have been worse under Y: "Yeah, I know Trump rips the still-beating heart out of a randomly picked child each morning, but can you imagine how more terrible things would've been if that nasty woman had been elected?"

Pense knows in his heart-of-hearts that the consequence of sin is misery and suffering and, morevoer, that anywhere there is misery and suffering sin is at its root. He also knows that his apparently loving and merciful deity is quite prepared to punish a whole community or nation for the sinfulness of a few individuals, or even of a single individual, so he has to push the fear-appeal, "If we don't do something about ssm then we're all going to get it in the neck come judgement day." Until recently he was only talking to those who already believed what he believes - but now he has real influence and the power to impose his beliefs on a great many, true believers or not. In this regard I doubt that an increasing tolerant attitude towards LGBT and ssm from the US public, or the reduction in suffering and misery individuals are reporting as a consequence, carry much weight with Mr Pense. He knows what sin is and what's sinful--it's all written down in a special book--just as he knows how and why his deity will punish everyone if something isn't done about it. His ingrained Phelpsianism means that ensuring the misery and suffering of a few is an honourable means to ensuring that righteous true-believers like him get their rewards on Earth and their golden ticket into heaven. Christianity, from top to bottom, is all about scapegoating.

"Societal collapse"? Are you sure he didn't say "scrotal prolapse"?
Yeah well that's just, like, your opinion, man.

Is that like a prehensile scrotum?
“When I was in college, I took a terrorism class. ... The thing that was interesting in the class was every time the professor said ‘Al Qaeda’ his shoulders went up, But you know, it is that you don’t say ‘America’ with an intensity, you don’t say ‘England’ with the intensity. You don’t say ‘the army’ with the intensity,” she continued. “... But you say these names [Al Qaeda] because you want that word to carry weight. You want it to be something.” - Ilhan Omar
