They banned Cat Stevens, the singer/songwriter years ago in very similar circumstances.
He changed his name to Yusuf Islam and that was good enough for them.

Yes, I know he's a dumb cunt. But that was never given as the reason for denying him entry to the United States. I'm not sure they even knew who he was, or cared.

The quoran states that blasphemy is a capital offence. So the vast majority of muslims would agree with him. They are taught that the quoran is literally true, so they have to.

Which, in a way, justifies Trump's muslim ban. Ban the fucking lot. They all want to kill Rushdie. (and most of the posters on here)

One official was quoted as saying that donations from Islam may have ended up in the hands of Sheikh Omar Abdel-Rahman, the blind cleric jailed for his role in the bombing of the World Trade Centre in 1993.

Islam, who abandoned his musical career when he became a Muslim in the late 1970s, was expelled from Israel in July 2000 for allegedly providing financial support to the Palestinian group Hamas.

In a statement at the time, he said: "I want to make sure that people are aware that I've never ever knowingly supported any terrorist groups - past, present or future."

The article that I quoted begins "Cat Stevens, the singer who changed his name to Yusuf Islam, was on his way back to Britain last night after United States officials denied him entry and claimed that he had funded terrorism." Apparently your memory of what happened is not accurate.

The US government considers Hamas a terrorist organization, and according to the article he was expelled from Israel because they believed he contributed funds to Hamas. In addition, the article quotes an official saying that they believed there was a financial connection between Yusuf Islam and "the blind cleric jailed for his role in the bombing of the World Trade Centre in 1993."

He was not denied entry because he "changed his name to Yusuf Islam."

You can't get much more contrived than that. And that was reason enough, not just to refuse him entry, but to DIVERT THE PLANE to a different airport.
I do remember the US being a laughing stock at the time.
