“To be sure, many demagogues in our past – including elected officials – have paved their path to power on fear,” Rather continued. “Race was a favorite target – but also religion, gender, sexuality, country of origin.”

“Again, for clarity, this problem of good people without legal status needs to be addressed,” he said. “But not with sudden roundups and raids that are designed to spread fear.”

“Our history argues that, in America, the pendulum almost invariably swings back to common sense and tolerance after the fever breaks,” Rather concluded. “As I’ve said before, and I believe bears repeating: courage is being afraid but going on anyhow.”

Wow, these are truly powerful words from a great American citizen. We must realize Dan Rather’s advice more than ever and turn our fear into courage in the fight against Trump.

I like this! Except there is nothing appealing about the guy but still, he got elected, after all. I hope all those who voted for him get pissed off with him now that he is unable to act on some of his promises.
