Hypocrisy much.

We should be MOST skeptical of ideas we like because we are sufficiently skeptical of ideas that we don't like. Penn Jillette.

Connect the dots:
(1) Yiannopoulos writes for Breitbart, which until recently was run by Steven Bannon, who is now Trump's chief strategist.
(2) Before Yiannopoulos speaks at Berkeley, Breitbart publishes an article saying that Yiannopoulos will call for the withdrawal of federal grants and the prosecution of university officials who endanger their students with their policies.
(3) Berkeley opens its doors to Yiannopoulos, but campus police have to cancel the event because of masked agitators.
(4) Hours later, Trump issues a misleading tweet, accusing the university of not allowing free speech and promoting violence against innocent people with different views.
(5) The next night, Yiannopoulos on Fox News says the incident proves that universities like Berkeley don’t deserve federal grants by cracking down on free speech.
(6) That same night I say on CNN that I wouldn't bet against the possibility that Yiannopoulos and Breitbart could have been collaborating with the agitators. My speculation generates a belligerent column in Breitbart with a misleading headline calling me a liar.
I don't want to see conspiracies where they aren't. We have too many conspiracy theories floating around as is. But do you think there's something going on here?

Well, there would be an opportunity to prove this hypothesis - is there an agitator that was caught, arrested or interviewed that is such a collaborator? Or, were the ones that we're aware of actually rioting against Yiannopoulous? There were thousands of rioters.
And, as a wrench in the works of the numbered list above, it's not unusual for crowds to riot and shut down Yiannopoulos talks. They've stormed the stage - commandered the microphone, shut down forcefully talks at other colleges, threatened him with physical violence. Were all those other incidents part of the right wing conspiracy?
This is not some isolated incident. This is a pattern and practice.

What's going on is the faculty of most universities turned from being predominantly liberal to being significantly leftist.pErvin wrote:A small minority of shouty regressives =/= infiltration and subversion. And, we seem to have some number of folks like Professor Click - a journalism professor who thinks that unwanted media should properly be forcibly removed from public places so that they can't cover the activities of protesting students. It's weird la-la land where up is down and down is up.

The police should have just opened fire on the Berekly students, like the used to in the good old days before the political correctness brigade got their filth paws on the constiution.

If you're trying to pretend that this is just a few bad apples that spoiled the bunch, or even more ludicrously, that it was a cabal of Trump supporters doing the violence to blame it on the "peaceful leftists" then you're fooling yourself.

Certainly not, and nobody is advocating that. What the Berkeley students should have done, however, is protested peacefully, without attacking people and without destroying property. They turned into a violent mob of fascists trying to shut down a peaceful event, and unfortunately, the scumbags were allowed to succeed and the even twas canceled. It was a shame, and a loss for freedom of expression and a loss for freethought everywhere. I'd go further. I'd defend Milo against attackers, even if he is a rape-excusing, woman-hating, hateful troll and bigot. But what I'm interested in is why your so keen to categorise the protesters as violent when its clear from the first video that it's being instigated by a small group of black-clad 'ninjas' types who've come prepared for a rumble. The other kids in casual clothes might be being vocal but when things kick off later they seem as shocked as anybody. The second video is posted by someone enamoured of Milo, which casts what is and isn't being shown in a particular light, and the third video is from someone who is clearly a conspiracy nut and who likes sticking it to SJWs. Of course the videos show what they show, but they also don't show what they don't show, so I'd just refer to what the police chief said, about the protesters peacefully exercising their democratic rights until the 'ninjas' turned up and kicked off. Now if you want to tar all the protesters, or even everyone who doesn't agree with you on this, with the same broad brush, then by all means, have at it.

He isn't those things, IMO, but you're free to view him as such. But, even if we were to agree that is those things, it's not unlawful to excuse rape. There is nothing unlawful, yet, about advocating in favor of illegal activity. I find a great many of the so called Progressives and feminists to be hateful trolls and bigots. They still have a right to spew their nonsense.Brian Peacock wrote:I'd go further. I'd defend Milo against attackers, even if he is a rape-excusing, woman-hating, hateful troll and bigot.
The ones that are violent are categorized as violent. A violent protest occurs, for example, when protesters beat people up, punch a Nazi, pepper spray a woman with Trump hat, set fires, overturn cars, break windows, and fire fireworks into crowds of people. I feel it is not unwarranted to categorize that as violent. You may differ.Brian Peacock wrote: But what I'm interested in is why your so keen to categorise the protesters as violent
I don't know why I would have to wait until everyone is acting violently in order to categorize the protest as violent. Would you do that with a Trump rally?Brian Peacock wrote: when its clear from the first video that it's being instigated by a small group of black-clad 'ninjas' types who've come prepared for a rumble.
Many of them were cheering. I would never suggest that everyone was being violent. All and everyone is a rare occurrence in any situation.Brian Peacock wrote: The other kids in casual clothes might be being vocal but when things kick off later they seem as shocked as anybody.
I'm not painting anyone with a broad brush. clearly, there are anti-Milo protesters who do so peacefully. However, there are plenty who are so brazen they will assault Milo with a faux swing of the fist to his face, only to stop short. They will commandeer his stage and ruin his presentation, take his microphone and interrupt his event. Many will throw things, and assault people - because, of course, they are on the side of right. Milo is a Nazi or at least a white supremacist, so, you know, moral obligation to stop him and take away his platform.....Brian Peacock wrote: The second video is posted by someone enamoured of Milo, which casts what is and isn't being shown in a particular light, and the third video is from someone who is clearly a conspiracy nut and who likes sticking it to SJWs.
