I believe that the US is trying to dispute Canada's ownership of it's inland seas as well, just in case global warming does happen and Canada would own the northwest passage.

Well, not I, I read several news pieces about it over the years, and it remained lodged in my memory... NAFTA doesn't work, and the US use bad faith tactics to prevent Canadian lumber from entering their markets.
