Models of truth
Models of truth
I spend a lot of time, thinking and philosophizing about this question----->what is 'THE TRUTH'(in the general sense) ,.Does anyone know and will there ever be a complete explanation?.
*No* is what the answer appears to be. The problem is that any interpretation of truth depends on the model of understanding we are looking at. Many would profess and claim that there is a CREATOR or a deity who intervenes in our daily lives. It is true to them, and they are able to use the belief as a platform for their way of life . What about other models of understanding? There could be a model of truth for how someone like me can play golf successfully, or how i'm going to get a job this year, or the best way for me to find some pot, or how i'm going to decide what to do later tonight. So the truth only matters in terms of what it can be applied to. In the context of science, I don't think the god belief is going to have much of an impact.

Re: Models of truth
Depends what you mean by truth.
If you think truth is something like an absolute fact, a brute fact, something which is actually the case whether we know about it or not, whether we accept it or not, or whether we believe it or not, then there's probably only one truth you can put your money on: the Universe exists.
Scientific truths, such as theorems, theories and laws are by their nature provisional, that is; they stand on the basis of the available evidence until or unless more evidence or a better explanation of the available evidence comes along. That doesn't mean that something like gravity isn't a fact, only that our current understanding of gravity and gravitation probably isn't the full picture or the complete truth.
If you mean that truth is somehow dependent in some way on somebody believing something to be true, well that's no guarantee of anything other than the fact somebody believes something to be true. People can and do believe all sorts of things that are demonstrably false and things that have no basis in evidence or rational thinking, but that doesn't make them true.
The model of truth for how someone like you can play golf successfully is wholly dependant on your endeavour, not your belief. Golf is a skill. Around 10,000 hours of practice will give you enough experience to become highly skilled, but whether you will be successful depends on many factor including what you consider successful, the level of skill of the people you play against, the weather, how you handle competition stress, etc etc.

I can't handle the truth...
At my age, I probably couldn't handle a model either...

The latest fad is a poverty social. Every woman must wear calico,
and every man his old clothes. In addition each is fined 25 cents if
he or she does not have a patch on his or her clothing. If these
parties become a regular thing, says an exchange, won't there be
a good chance for newspaper men to shine?
