I highly recommend anything by Otava Yo... the music is folky just as I like, and the humour in the videos doesn't spoil anything

They look like Finns. Lots of us ugrics in Russia. And even though Finns are like Swedes in everyday life (living the same life in two languages), this Russian side makes us a bit different from boring Swedes. We were Russian just 100 years. All my grandparents were born in a Russian grand duchy.

couldn't tell, I don't understand their words, but it sounds more Slavic than Finnish to me, and the titles of the videos are it Cyrillic... they seem pretty Russian to me, but you could be right.

I was about to post that, I even stumbled on a French version of an interview of Aleksey Belkin (the Gusli/kantele player)

Say, these Myllärit folk, are they singing in Finnish? (posssibly Estonian or Karelian of course, but my ear wouldn't know the difference)

Myllärit sing in Finnish with a lot of Karelian dialect thrown in, occasionally some Russian.

Värttinä is from the Finnish side of Karelia. I saw them early 90s in of all places Dayton Ohio
