The Accuracy of War Journalism Today

Post by cronus » Fri Dec 30, 2016 6:50 am

Do we get to know what is happening from embedded journalists who are risk averse? Would you learn if a FEMA deathcamp was in operation from journalists who are not allowed to explore terrain with their own wits? And what if there is a war between Canada and the USA?

You're not getting journalism in the old sense any more.

You're getting propaganda. Either what the Government want you to hear, or what Rupert Murdoch wants you to hear. Or a bit of both.

The current message is, Russia bad, anti-Russia, brave hero orphan children good.

Asad bombing Aleppo bad, hitting only children.
Iraqi bombing in Mosul good, hitting only Jihadies.

Not that Mosul gets hardly a mention. The instructions are not to mention Mosul, where 'our side' are doing the same as Asad is doing in Aleppo. You would think that the place doesn't exist. Unless you took the trouble to actually LOOK for the stories. It is reported, but you have to look to find it.

Alleppo on the other had gets shoved down your throat whenever the news is on.

Basically, the news is now virtually all propaganda. Not journalism.
While there is a market for shit, there will be assholes to supply it.

That's why it's important to read from news sources on all sides of an issue if you can.

If you want accuracy; wait 'til about 50 years after the war and buy a well-researched book with the latest, unclassified documents.

Ignore all media and roll another blunt.

That's my advice.
Yeah well that's just, like, your opinion, man.

History is written by the victor, or something like that. Take the Holocaust, millions of starving jews in concentration camps yet no mention of why they were starving. Well, except for nazis being evil. The allies destroyed the railroads, and prisoners are the last to be fed.
Can't blame the allies for bombing supply lines, that's common sense in war. But war journalists spun the story into the holohaux. Evil Nazis starving jews, when they weren't busy gassing them. If hitler put a Rwandan in charge of genicide, it'd take six months with no survivors.
A rational skeptic should be able to discuss and debate anything, no matter how much they may personally disagree with that point of view. Discussing a subject is not agreeing with it, but understanding it.

Wasn't it the policy of these Nazi deathcamps to work their prisoners to death? They wanted to extract every last bit of capital out of the hated Jews - not just exterminate them.

Concentration camps, yeah, but there were also extermination camps like Treblinka specifically designed for mass murder, usually within hours of the prisoner's arrival.
