Commissioned by Greenpeace "to call attention to the issue of global warming and its impact on glaciers", this picture was conceived and taken by Spencer Tunick on a glacier in Switzerland in August 2007.
http://www.vanishing-ice.org/artists/spencer-tunick/In this work, the artist metaphorically compares the fragility of human life without protection from clothing to that of the earth without glaciers. The artist states:
“I want my images to go more than skin-deep. I want the viewers to feel the vulnerability of their existence and how it relates closely to the sensitivity of the world’s glaciers.”
My two cents' worth: It is all of the above, though as a political statement I can think of more effective ways of making one. Whatever - I quite like Tunick's "installations".
