Poor widdle birdies. Damn those cats.Scot Dutchy wrote:Cats killing huge numbers of British birds, Sir David Attenborough warns
Meanwhile, let's forget the environmental damage done by over 4 million cows and more than 12 million pigs in the Netherlands alone, how much space they deprive the birdies of, how many thousand square kilometres was alienated from the natural environment to grow the food to grow those animals for human consumption. Pigs and cattle alone are responsible for several magnitudes more widdle birdies never even coming into existence that would have thrived if humans had not stolen the environment in which they would have built nests. Entire ecosystems have been destroyed for... hang on - is there any original natural habitat left in the Netherlands at all? Yeah, but what about those damn cats, huh?
Next, let's have a quick glance at the aquatic scene. What would the Netherlands look like without all those man made dikes, polders and such? Oh, look. Two thirds of it would be permanently submarine or flooded on a regular basis. I wonder what that means for the widdle fishies that would have swum there, safe from those damn cats. Looks like Amsterdam would not exist, and several other big cities besides.

I could go on about the houses, roads, football fields and so on, that prevent nature from taking its course, but hopefully you got the picture already: compared to us bipeds, cats have done fuck-all by way of environmental damage, and that applies especially to the 31st most densely populated country or territory out of 246 in the world. Yes, the Netherlands.
