We won't hear from Seth for seven days as he is in mourning.

Fidel Castro was a dictator, but in comparison to the dictator he ousted, Fulgencio Batista, he did a massive amount of good to the Cuban people.

Batista was pure evil.

He did a lot to normalise the hipster beard. This will be his true legacy.

Hah! Without Fidel sales of Che T-shirts would have gone nowhere.

So what now? What's your take? What can we expect in Cuba?

Before the recent US election I was expecting a gradual dismantling of the economic blockade resulting in further improvements of living standards in Cuba, but now I don't know what will happen. Maybe another Bay of Pigs style attempt to overthrow the government followed by the return of the Golden Telephone type conditions?

I will say as communist dictators go, his body count was definitely on the low side. How hard is it to murder at least a million? Slacker......
A rational skeptic should be able to discuss and debate anything, no matter how much they may personally disagree with that point of view. Discussing a subject is not agreeing with it, but understanding it.

Relations will continue to normalize. Cuba is just too attractive. Unspoiled coastline, educated population with no money, no Micky D's, hell - it's a ripe plum ready for picking. Raoul is much less an ideologue than Fidel. In no time there will be high rises on the beaches and fat Americanos bitching about the coffee.
Yeah well that's just, like, your opinion, man.

You're kidding, right? I'm going to go celebrate. It's about fucking time. Now for his brother Raul...

You clearly know nothing of Cuban history.

Well, on a small island like Cuba you have to be somewhat careful not to murder the entire populace so you murder fewer but you do it in ways that terrorizes the rest of the population into shutting up and being obedient little proletarian drones lest they end up in a shallow grave in a banana plantation somewhere like Che's victims, and you keep right on terrorizing them by brutally murdering anyone who shows the slightest sign of counterrevolution.

Oh, and you take away all their guns right off the bat.

Yeah, no. We need to reimpose the blockade except make it a total blockade except for the air-dropping of massive numbers of AK-47s and Liberty Pistols and ammunition to Cubans so they can kill the communists and free Cuba. No boots on the ground needed.

He's a legend and his name will carry on longer than much of the US presidents who opposed him.
