Election 2016 Thread
Re: Election 2016 Thread
Been watching Leonardo DiCaprio's new film, which you can watch in full below. Voting for a climate science denier who wants to reject the Paris agreement and double down on fossil you are fucking immoral. I really hope Americans reject this Trump asshole tomorrow and don't play this reckless game for fucking sanity's sake.

Re: Election 2016 Thread
LOL. He's never served in public office in any capacity, yet does that automatically render him the epitome of probity and moral rectitude? Oh no, he's merely enriched himself by wholly legitimate means, like fleecing grannies and youths who paid for a non-education at Trump university, shifting his massive business debts onto others, and avoiding tax by a paperwork exercise that reduces his income to a measly $14k while he boasts about how incredibly wealthy he is. Then there's the mocking of disabled people, the overt misogyny, the sexual intimidation of his employees and others, the double-standards exemplified by his business practices, the outrageous non-factual claims (too numerous to mention), the incitement of his supporters by falsehood and wilful fear-mongering, the blanket denials when challenged about his previous statements and positions, the constant whining about how unfairly he's been treated while he dishes out the same treatment to his opposition, the threats to renege on international agreements and treaties, the feathering of the fossil fuel lobby's nest, and the domestic policies, many of which are not just ill-considered to the point of being completely unachievable but if implemented would mark him out as a dictatorial monster on the scale of a Stalin or Mao. Yeah Clinton is not perfect. She has her faults. But really, shouldn't you at least apply the same standards to Trump as you are so earnest in applying to Clinton, and then come to some sort of balanced view about who would, at the very least, do the least harm if elected?Forty Two wrote:For what? I'm going to look for birds. Back in 11 hours. The last 9 polls give it to Clinton

And if this drags a few days, still there is hope

According to statistics from the federal Election Assistance Commission, in 2012, voters cast at least 2.7 million provisional ballots. The two states with the most provisional ballots, California and New York, aren’t battleground states. But the third and fourth-ranked states — Ohio and Arizona — are.
These “overtime” ballots tilt toward the Democrats

OK it was a bit busy. At poll. Back in 9 hours. My count 3:1 Hillary vs Trump. Us and the neighbors. The marriage, theirs, will survive even when he finds out.

No, it means she abused her public office for personal gain, among other things, and he hasn't.Brian Peacock wrote:LOL. Indeed, enriching oneself legitimately is characteristically different than enriching oneself illegitimately.Brian Peacock wrote: Oh no, he's merely enriched himself by wholly legitimate means,
He did so no differently than the average university, which charges large tuition fees for horseshit education. I submit, that people are to be entrusted with the capacity of vetting a school before they attend it. Moreover, many more people took his classes and were quite pleased with the result.Brian Peacock wrote: like fleecing grannies and youths who paid for a non-education at Trump university,

citation needed. has he used the Democrat approved tax code illegally? immorally?Brian Peacock wrote: and avoiding tax by a paperwork exercise that reduces his income to a measly $14k while he boasts about how incredibly wealthy he is.
All that crap is just as applicable to his opponent, and all other politicians. He didn't mock the disabled. He engaged in locker-room talk, and there is no evidence of actual "intimidation" of employees or others -- all that is election year allegation-mongering, and it may or may not be true, but there isn't much to go on. If you accept those allegations against him, then all the allegations of jew-baiting and anti-black rhetoric that the Clintons spew in private should be accepted as true. Her threatening of women who alleged her husband harassed or assaulted them, etc. Her laughing at a child molestation victim. All that kind of thing.Brian Peacock wrote: Then there's the mocking of disabled people, the overt misogyny, the sexual intimidation of his employees and others, the double-standards exemplified by his business practices, the outrageous non-factual claims (too numerous to mention), the incitement of his supporters by falsehood and wilful fear-mongering, the blanket denials when challenged about his previous statements and positions, the constant whining about how unfairly he's been treated while he dishes out the same treatment to his opposition,
He hasn't threatened to "renege." He's threatened to withdraw. There is nothing illegal or improper about that. Nations enter treaties by consent, and they are allowed under international law to withdraw.Brian Peacock wrote:

You can look to Clinton for that, who had public position against oil drilling, but then facilitated oil drilling as Secretary of State, in return for generous donations....Brian Peacock wrote: the feathering of the fossil fuel lobby's nest,

to put it mildly.Brian Peacock wrote: She has her faults.
I do. You don't appear to. If he took money from foreign governments, for example, I would question it just as much. However, he did not. Instead, Hillary tried to sully him with being Russian plant or ally because he supposedly had business ventures there, or business interests, or was in bed with some Russian bank. So, she sullied his name by saying he had business interests with Russia, but wants us to ignore her uranium-to-Russia stuff, and her donations from foreign governments while she was Secretary of State stuff, including million dollar donations from Qatar which she did not disclose because she argued it was not a "material" donation. LOL. A million bucks is just pocket change. Not material.Brian Peacock wrote: But really, shouldn't you at least apply the same standards to Trump as you are so earnest in applying to Clinton, and then come to some sort of balanced view about who would, at the very least, do the least harm if elected?
Her position on military intervention is that she's for it. Trump says he wants to bomb ISIS, but he does not advocate invading Iran, which is Hillary's thing. Hillary has been in favor of every war since, and including, Vietnam. She has not opposed any of them. She is a hawk compared to Trump. That's why the neocons like her. She's a neocon.
Her support for Obamacare is unacceptable to me. It's a clusterfuck, and insurance rates are going through the roof, options are limited. I can't keep my plan, and neither can vast millions of other people. You were not going to be able to "keep your doctor" as they promised. They lied through their teeth. I pay three times as much for the same/similar coverage as I did three years ago. A 300% increase in premiums over three years. And, the god damn "affordable care act" was sold on the rubric that it would make things more affordable, reduce health care costs and spread the risk over a bigger pool. It's monstrous. It has to be repealed.
Her tax policies mean higher taxes.
Her immigration policies are in line with her desire for open borders.
She is a free trader, regardless of how many jobs flow overseas, and how many US industries go under.
She is in the pocket of the big banks - Wall Street is 100% behind Hillary, not the Republican candidate. Do you think they support the one that they think is going to hold their feet to the fire?
I sincerely believe Hillary is a disaster. Trump may be too. But, Hillary is guaranteed.
