A woman who is suing Donald Trump for allegedly raping her as a child abandoned a plan to speak publicly on Wednesday, citing death threats.

The woman, known by the pseudonym Jane Doe, hid from media who were invited to her lawyer’s Los Angeles office for a press conference in which she was expected to reveal her identity.

Instead, her attorney, Lisa Bloom, cancelled the event in a brief, apologetic statement to a phalanx of cameras.

“Jane Doe has received numerous threats today as have all the Trump accusers that I have represented. She has decided she is too afraid to show her face. She has been here all day, ready to do it, but unfortunately she is in terrible fear. We’re going to have to reschedule. I apologize to all of you who came. I have nothing further.”

The Trumpeteers screamed: how could they threaten her? Nobody knows her name!

Hello! Everybody knows her lawyer now.

Trump called "Jane Doe" on her cell phone and threatened her with death. Jane Doe is listed on whitepages.com. That's why she's listed as Jane Doe, so that she can be contacted.

The lawyer did not say her office received death threats. Her lawyer said that Jane Doe received the threats.

Wait, wait, I get it.

"Hell, the Bloom Law Office, how may I help you?"

"I'd like to leave a death threat for your anonymous client, Jane Doe."

"Oh, yes, by all means, let me transfer you to Ms. Bloom', you may be placed on a brief hold as she is receiving another death threat at the moment. Or, you can send the threat by email, if you prefer."

"No, I'll hold, thank you."

Will they be forwarding the telephone and email records to the police and the FBI to investigate these death threats? Or, did the threats come in one of those creepy missives, where someone cuts out letters from a magazine and pieces them together to write out the message?

Oh! So, it was someone else who threatened Jane Doe?

What ARE they claiming, specifically? Was the threat on voicemail? Email? Letter? If any of those, they could show us the threat. If it was by a live telephone call, how did the person get her number? And, the phone service provider would have a record of the incoming call, at least to reflect a blocked caller ID (which can be identified, if necessary - it's not impossible for the company to find out who made the call).

Is there nothing about this that sounds suspicious to you? 20+ year old allegations by an anonymous person, in a twice dismissed election year suit - and now somehow someone, we don't know who, made threats (plural) to this woman -- but, we have no detail. Why no police report? The cops can get a warrant for phone service records to show who called in the threat. If it was by email or writing, we could see it.

Yes, I ask for evidence. To you, that seems like great lengths, since you accept any scurrilous allegation against Trump at face value.

And, you reject all allegations about Hillary Clinton, denying mountains of evidence.

You're not even trying, Tero. Just admit that you don't care about whether the allegations against Hillary or Trump are true or false. It's obvious anyway, why not just admit it?

Right, and what you and I know right now is that some anonymous person has sued a candidate in an election year claiming she was raped 20+ years ago, well past the statute of limitations, and has now claimed, through her attorney, to have received "death threats." We are provided with no details, and no evidence of any of it.

So, generally, assertions made without evidence may be rejected without evidence. So, we have no reason to believe the assertions, especially when the details would be easy to provide. If there was an email threat, show it. If it's a letter, show it. If it's a phone call, at least provide the log - she would know when the call came in. At the absolute minimum, she could hold up her phone or print out a call log that shows a blocked caller ID or private number and she could say "here - this is the call I picked up that was the threat."

There is none. It is state by state.

The majority of states no longer have a statute of limitation of any rape.

Motherjones has the list.
