It's you or them, who do you choose?

Post by Forty Two » Fri Aug 19, 2016 5:04 pm

Is there anyone you would die for? How easy would it be? Would you hesitate?

My wife and kids for sure. I don't think I would even think twice about it. If someone was like, guns to our heads, one of us is going to go -- who will it be. I would say -- "me." No problem.

I would like to think that I would do the same for my parents and siblings, but there I have some hesitation. I think again about my kids -- they need me. I might not do it for them.

Friends, well, unfortunately, my family's need for me is definitely going to mean I let them go instead of me.

If I were single, though, with no kids, I think that I would let them shoot me instead of any of my family members, and most of my friends. I just don't think I could go on in life knowing I just said "shoot them, instead of me."

That reminded me of the worst line in the history of pop music songs.... from that awful song about whether the majority Christian Ethiopians Know It's Christmas Time.... they say of the plight of these oblivious-to-Christmas-starving-Christians-in-Africa, "tonight thank god it's them, instead of you!" It's like, yeah -- what a great thing to thank the all-good deity -- "thanks God for making the Ethiopian kids starve instead of me!" Now let's raise a glass (of booze) to everyone, underneath that burning sun.... but, I digress.
“When I was in college, I took a terrorism class. ... The thing that was interesting in the class was every time the professor said ‘Al Qaeda’ his shoulders went up, But you know, it is that you don’t say ‘America’ with an intensity, you don’t say ‘England’ with the intensity. You don’t say ‘the army’ with the intensity,” she continued. “... But you say these names [Al Qaeda] because you want that word to carry weight. You want it to be something.” - Ilhan Omar

Hypothetically, I would of course call on my super powers and overcome the evil bastards intent on killing me and mine!

Definitely the kids. I wouldn't hesitate.

What would be interesting would be to see if that changes as they become adults themselves.

I usually consider it in relation to having to step in front of a car or something.

Must be terrible living in a society looking over your shoulder the whole time while keeping a hand on your gun just in case.

Well when I am given a us or them ultimatum, it is always them as I don't like cults.

Get real Scot, the question's an old one.

Altruism -selfish gene even talks bout it.

Unfortunately -or fortunately- your immediate response is preprogrammed. But I guess given a chance to reason people can surprise.

Me, you're not dying in front of me if I can help it. -USA-

It depends. Will my death be glorious?
People think "queue" is just "q" followed by 4 silent letters.

But those letters are not silent.

They're just waiting their turn.
