Exactly Spaz, also, if one drop of red matter adds enough mass to a planet to make it turn into a black hole then why doesn't the entire ball create a super massive black hole when it's on the ship?ScholasticSpastic wrote:If one drop of "Red Matter" is sufficient to make a star or a planet implode, and if Spock's mission in the cheesy spinny ship was to implode one star, why come did Spock need to bring along several hundred liters of "Red Matter?"Paco wrote:This movie was rubbish after the first scene but it really sealed it's fate with the introduction of "Red Matter".
Also, the mining attachment on the bad guy ship was unnecessarily phalic and the fight scenes on it were thus intensely homo-erotic.
Liked the green slut. Alien women are the embodiment of our favorite split infinitive.
Kirk was a dumb-ass and their "command structure" was laughable.

Re: New Star Trek film looks incredible!
I think Phil Plait, the "Bad Astronomer" made similar criticisms of the film, his point being that it was a good movie that could have been great if they'd just tried a littler harder to get the science right. "Real" science is usually much more astonishing than anything your average Hollywood scriptwriter could make up.
And I don't think the money a film makes can be used as a measure of how good it is. If you did that, Transformers, Rise of the Product Placement would be better than, say, Fellini.

Vacuums don't effect gravity like that other wise the moon wouldn't be circling us and we wouldn't be circling the Sun. I could go on for ages about how shit this film is but I'd rather waste my time on something more deserving.

I dunno, I'm too used to people trying to defend shit Sci-fi so i don't take chances. As you said, with even a modicum of effort shit like this could be avoided and real sci-fi could take a stand.Animavore wrote:Oh c'...mon.Paco wrote:Vacuums don't effect gravity like that other wise the moon wouldn't be circling us and we wouldn't be circling the Sun.
