Oh great. AI targeting. "Honey, the military's swarm is after Johnson's cow again....."

Sure, but I'm talking about technological acquisitions and strategies. And in any case a human is likely to be even worse at defending against a swarm of mini robots than a submarine/fighter-jet.

And recyclable. Every 18 years or so there's a whole new crop ready for harvest...And when there's not enough girls around for them to screw, killing them off wholesale does the planet a favor because horny young males with lots of testosterone and no girls to bang are a complete pain in society's ass, as China demonstrates.

“When I was in college, I took a terrorism class. ... The thing that was interesting in the class was every time the professor said ‘Al Qaeda’ his shoulders went up, But you know, it is that you don’t say ‘America’ with an intensity, you don’t say ‘England’ with the intensity. You don’t say ‘the army’ with the intensity,” she continued. “... But you say these names [Al Qaeda] because you want that word to carry weight. You want it to be something.” - Ilhan Omar

It's not all that far away. The drones are cheap enough to produce in multiples for the cost of a single conventional fighter/bomber, and they are getting smaller and more capable.
I was reading an article (I think it was in the Sunday Times magazine) about the USS Carrier Ronald Reagan. The pilots were saying they might be phased out soon because of sophisticated drone technology. Also the Top Gun Academy was next to useless as the last dogfight was over 20 years ago. NATO was set up for a war against Russia and/or China to any other country it just seems like bullying.

Those drones (that may replace manned fighters) are large, and are really sophisticated pilotless aircraft; the technology is relatively mature now. The drones in the swarm concept are the size of insects, or small birds at the most; that is a very speculative technology at this stage.

Great video, rEv!

(though of course, if they were truly nano machines, they would not be visible to the naked eye... ;) )

The main questions I would have is what is their flight time (based on energy storage) and how autonomous they could be away from direct control by an operator. Also, to do military stuff, they would need a payload like some plastique, which would eat into their time aloft...

yeah, I imagine power is probably a limiting factor at the moment. But battery technology is moving at leaps and bounds lately, so that will be overcome soon enough. Regarding control, those drones would have had computer algorithms built in to perform those manouevers (<-- that fucking word is impossible to spell! :lay: ). So it would just require a human (or a computer with enough intelligence) to trigger when they occur. It's really not going to be long till we see this stuff I reckon. They'll be larger scaled initially, and will get gradually smaller and smaller over time. There'll be some ethical quandaries regarding these I bet.

EMP generator will take them down - smaller they are less the shielding. Romans had the best tech for their times but the barbarians still won. There's such a thing as being too clever by half.

Take the enemy's EMP generators out with EMP generators first... :read:

If the combat is that close range why bother with robots in the first place?

Take the enemy's EMP out with a carbon bomb (or whatever they are called) first... :read:
