Yeah, and it will be at the mercy of the big players. "Want us to buy your cheese? Then this is the tariff, take it or leave it, and buy our steel at this price."
Rationalia relies on voluntary donations. There is no obligation of course, but if you value this place and want to see it continue please consider making a small donation towards the forum's running costs.
Details on how to do that can be found here.

Nonsense. As I said, it will be just like any other independent country. Do independent countries not have trade deals? And Britain IS a big player.

Trade benefits BOTH sides. You guys are painting it like countries trading with Britain will be doing it as a favour to them.

Exactly Brian. Britain will not have a single agreement in place and will only be trading under the WTO so it will be no better than many African third world countries. It is madness for Britain to leave a major position in the major trading market in the world. Why do the Brexiters want to do it? Why commit trade suicide? To end up being only marginally better than Guernsey? It is not for the good of the country that is for sure. It is for the good of the 1% that is why.

Is it your position then that any unarmed person, even in countries where it is illegal, deserve to be murdered? If not, how do you justify this statement?
No one deserves to be murdered, that's the entire point. Everyone has a natural human right to defend themselves and to be properly armed in order to do so. However, if you, as a competent, law-abiding adult, do not take measures to defend yourself why should anyone else risk their lives to defend you and why should anyone lament your demise if you CHOOSE to be a helpless victim? No one is saying that you are to be compelled to do anything, merely that sympathy for those who CHOOSE to be helpless, unarmed victims is justifiably limited, as is any moral obligation on the part of others, including the police, to place their lives at risk to protect such persons.

Your safety is YOUR responsibility and is not the responsibility of anyone else.

If it is illegal in your country for you to arm yourself for self defense then it is in your best interests to change that. I haven't seen any evidence here that more than three people in this forum have any interest whatsoever in even challenging the laws that disarm them and force them into helpless victimhood.

I, on the other hand, spend a great deal of time defending my right to keep and bear arms for my lawful self defense both here and IRL precisely because I choose NOT to be a helpless victim and I am not arrogant or uncaring enough to support laws which make OTHER PEOPLE helpless victims merely because I might be afraid of guns. What about you? Do you advocate for disarming other law-abiding people because you are afraid of what might happen if they are armed? If so, then YOU bear moral and ethical culpability for anything bad that happens to them that they could have prevented had they been permitted to arm themselves.

I don't take Seth's views as representative of Americans, being one myself (well, a dual citizen now) and having many friends and family back home that would find his views abhorrent. I know people who are gun owners (though it's a very small percentage of the people I know) and even NRA members, and yet am fairly damn positive none of them would agree with what he said.
Who would agree with him? He is not unique so there must be groups that support his way of thinking.
There's plenty of people who despise sheeple who willingly allow themselves to be disarmed by their own government. We despise them because their cowardice is toxic and harmful to our rights because it too often gets exported to the US, where we have to clean up the mess. It's like shitting in someone else's cookpot. You want to eat shit served up to you by your masters you are free to do so, but keep the shit in your own pot. Over here we value individual liberty and the right to keep and bear arms for personal defense and we don't want your propaganda infecting our culture.

Indeed. For Seth owning a gun is more than a right, it's a duty - and abrogation of that responsibility warrants death. It's jihadism without heaven.

Yes, you're right, I did. But, that was a provocative statement intended to stimulate debate, which it has. The actual reasoning is rather more nuanced and complex. So, I would amend to say she didn't get what she "deserved," rather she got what was coming to her as a result of her own personal choices about her personal safety, which she chose to abdicate and delegate to the police, who weren't there when she needed them. She made choices and that happened to be a bad one. Too bad. One more sheeple to the slaughter on the altar of the false god of gun control.
