Greece would never let it happen, not before they realized the Great Idea (a XIXth century ideal of retaking Western Anatolia, and as much of Asia Minor as possible. It ended in the 1920s when Greece lost its war with Ataturk's Turkey)y

Not just Greece. Try and find one country that would support Turkey's application.Svartalf wrote:Greece would never let it happen, not before they realized the Great Idea (a XIXth century ideal of retaking Western Anatolia, and as much of Asia Minor as possible. Germany has massive relations with Turkey, and and important Turkish population, or population of Turkish descent.
France... our rulers are such dogs they'd agree to anything for a bone like a weapons contract.

Yeah, Germany is the best place outside Turkey for great Turkish cuisine. A delight.

Re: The Thread of BREXIT
Do you know why so many illegal immigrants (read economic immigrants) want to reach Britain?
The answer is simple. You dont have to register in Britain. Once in you are in. In almost every other European member of the EU you have to register where you are living.
Here for instance the one holy number is your citizen number. You cant move without it. Healthcare, education, housing etc.. Doors are closed until you get that number and even when you get that number there are plenty of hoops to jump through even though you are an EU citizen but they are only small hurdles. For non-EU migrants the hurdles are enormous. Learn the language to secondary school level and sit the citizenship exam. Failure means a flight back home. It works we have negative immigration from non-EU countries.
In Britain nothing.

Re: The Thread of BREXIT
There's been a decision to suspend campaigning by both leave and remain campaigns on account of the death of a politician here in the UK. Really a excuse for a breather as both camps have slogged their guts out on issues. Thought the same break would be of value here?Scot Dutchy wrote:Why?Crumple wrote:

Re: The Thread of BREXIT
After Brexit, Australia (and its little buddy New Zealand) will let England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland join the Greater South Pacific Co-prosperity Sphere. Initially, of course, you will not be able to vote, but once you assist us in conquering Indonesia and the Phillipines, we may relent...

EU Referendum: Dutch hopes and fears over Brexit
The words: "Don't leave me this way," in English, and the Union Jack splashed across the front page of Wednesday's edition of the best-selling daily newspaper Algemeen Dagblad reflect the general view of the Dutch establishment about a possible Brexit.
The Dutch currently hold the presidency of the EU, but it is not just the prospect of an unprecedented crisis happening on their watch that is causing jitters in the Netherlands.
Dutch politicians, especially on the right, regard Britain as a bulwark against the more protectionist tendencies of some of the bigger EU states.
As one of the grand old men of Dutch politics, the former leader of the centre right VVD party and former EU Commissioner Frits Bolkestein told me: "Holland and Britain look at the seas.
"We are maritime people and believe in trade with other parts of the world.
"Continental powers, like France and Germany, very important members of the EU, think differently."
