What's most enlightening about this is that it flies in the face of the idiotic rantings from Seth that true democracy would see most people just vote themselves free largesse. As you say, there was free money on the table.

It seems that the prevailing view was that an unearned income would promotes moral laxity - which is a bit rich from the land of secret bank accounts and nazi gold.

They work for themselves and help manage the money of others who have "worked" for themselves, nothing against Calvinist work ethics there... after all, ethics and money are mostly a matter of hypocrisy, as we have known for 2000 years.

It's a huge success when 20% vote in favour of a basic income when a few years ago one was considered a lunatic when proposing such an idea.

How can so many of you support the libertarian notion of a minimum basic income for all. After all Friedrich Hayek advocated it in the Road to Serfdom, and it originated, basically, with Milton Friedman and the evil Chicago School of Economics. This kind of classical liberal economic theory was proven wrong a long time ago by the Keynesians, wasn't it?

The thing that was interesting in the class was every time the professor said ‘Al Qaeda’ his shoulders went up, But you know, it is that you don’t say ‘America’ with an intensity, you don’t say ‘England’ with the intensity. You don’t say ‘the army’ with the intensity,” she continued. “... But you say these names [Al Qaeda] because you want that word to carry weight. You want it to be something.” - Ilhan Omar

Either you're talking utter gobbledigook, or you're lying, and not on your bed.

I agree. Just the fact it is being talked about is truly amazing. The town of Utrecht (we dont have any real cities here) is going to run trials with a basic income instead of benefits to see what effect it will have.

that will go the same way as legalizing pot... a few years later a lot of new restrictions were reintroduced and now it's not fun anymore to go to the Netherlands to buy a stock and have a few tokes
