Mammals are supposed to be more intelligent than reptiles, but there isn't much sign of it lately.
Apart from the crocs, the jellyfish would put me off dabbling my feet in the sea up there.

Lions, for some reason, don't see humans as food if they are in a vehicle. Usually.
Crocodiles obviously aren't so easily fooled.
If there are half-ton killers lurking about that can hide in six inches of water, I'd need more than a glorified tin bath for protection.

The bad time for box jellyfish is the summer wet season, but you can still occasionally encounter one any time...

Yeah, I just recently realised that. I thought outside of the summer months you were safe from the box jellyfish and the irakanji (speeling?). I spent a few days camped in the troopy on an isolated beach a hundred kays or so north of Broome in the Kimberly. I spent half of each day swimming. Usually saw only about 1 car per day drive by. Thankfully I didn't run across any killer jellyfish.

We were in Broome during the dry season a few years back, and went swimming a few times on Cable Beach. There were signs about the chance of a jellyfish sting, but we ignored them... I think they have much more serious signs during the Wet, or actually close the beach to swimmers...

At least in Broome you could get paramedic help straight away. I would have been fucked if I was stung by one where I was. And it was bloody hot too. Near enough to 40 degrees in spring.

When I last went snorkeling on a platform on the Barrier Reef, of Port Douglas, in winter, they offered a neck to ankle thin covering, just in case, which I accepted...

It only takes something as thin as panty-hose to prevent the stings...

I visited Queensland once a few years ago. Wife's cousins live (well drink as there was not much living) there. Had to wear special protective clothes and glasses for the sun. They had a cage as did their neighbours to sit outside in because of flying bugs. We could not go onto the beach because of the jelly fish. A lovely tropical location.
The only thing I enjoyed was the flight there and back as we we had treated ourselves to business class.

When I last went snorkeling on a platform on the Barrier Reef, of Port Douglas, in winter, they offered a neck to ankle thin covering, just in case, which I accepted...

It only takes something as thin as panty-hose to prevent the stings...

Yeah, the tropics are hard going. The subtropical beaches around Brisbane where I live are the best. There is a threat of being eaten by a shark, but it's highly unlikely you will be that unlucky.

Went in August. I dont snorkel but the wife did. It was so busy on the reef like the centre of a city and the reef is suffering.
Strange habits amazed me like bringing your own beer to a party and drinking it out of cans. That would be very offensive here.
