especially since there never were many christians in Arabia... more to the North in Palestine, Syria, Iraq, Egypt, yes, there were a lot, but they never were a major population in Arabia

It's unfortunate that an atheistic site is so one-eyed about religion. Namely, that one religion is singled out for derision.

Well, this member pisses on the lot of them, all their scriptures, and their god(s).

So, in the interests of even-handedness we need to recall that most people in the Arabian Peninsula voluntarily converted to Islam out of admiration & religious persuasion. Muhammad decided that he was a prophet in 610 AD. In just 22 years, till his death in 632 AD, all the Arabian Peninsula was under his banner, despite alleged opposition. So he must have had something going for him. Couldn't have been simply violence... his supposed opponents were more powerful. No, they were mostly persuaded by his teachings. They were disunited and looking for something to bring them together. Islam was what they were looking for.

Now, I don't give a tinker's toss about that religion, nor any others. They're all vile superstitions, & ALL repressive given half a chance. But to spend a quarter of the topics of Rationalia on castigating Islam, to the virtual exclusion of all else, and claim that there is an organic creature called ISLAM, and that it is unique in its abominations, as the above video claims, is bullshit.

Bloody Jihad is something that ALL religions practice. The Jews practiced it, and still do. The Christian did & still do. The Hindus did & still do, and the Buddhists do it now (Myanmar Rohingas). At various times each faction does it differently, as suits their mindset, culture, and strategies.

The present Muslim fanatics, Salafists/Wahabis were essentially set up by the British Foreign Office in the 19th Century for the express purpose of sowing division in Sunni Islam & stopping any modernizing tendencies. That's how different governments operate. The present American government uses bribery, intimidation, buying puppets, color revolutions, assassination, disinformation & so forth, and has murdered millions since WW2.
