Easy to be 'statistically objective' one minute and then use some poorly educated social scum to press home your point the next. I'd prefer to consider the main points - which are unique to each country, where a country is a nation state in the tradition sense - not a mish-mash of cultural interests stretched beyond all meaning. I'd like to bring this exhibit to the table if I might, to show the other side of the argument in more clarity.... :read:

problem being of course that illegal aliens, being not that stupid, will all pretend to be asylum seekers...

You better give me a statistically objective executive summary. I'm not going to listen to two hours' worth of Sam Harris, even if his appearance is diluted by the presence of another talking head.
I am, somehow, less interested in the weight and convolutions of Einstein’s brain than in the near certainty that people of equal talent have lived and died in cotton fields and sweatshops. - Stephen J. Gould

You're nor alone in being concerned about radical Islam, yet the problem arises when you and others conflate immigrants and asylum-seekers for jihadists and criminals. It's easy to point the finger at 'that other lot' but a lot harder to deal with the so-called home grown jihadists responsible for the London bombings or Woolwich attack etc. In this I think politicians who wish to appear strong and decisive on terrorism and public order too quickly plump for the easy target, saying 'that other lot' all deserve stiff treatment and I'm going to give it to them on your behalf - now vote for me!

Vote for bullies if it comforts you, but excluding 'that other lot' isn't going to make you any safer on the underground.

A nation in the traditional sense is a "mish-mash of cultural interests" and Britain always has been. We are a bastard nation just like every other and we see cultural variation everywhere; nationally, regionally, locally, in our social and family groups. 'Britishness' is a conciet, not a discrete and unique thing exclusive to a particular ethnic group, class, religion, political point of view or party. 'Britishness' emerges from that" mish-mash of cultural interests", it changes over time, and it is wholly in the hands of the citizenry and cannot be set in amber, legislated for, or defined and imposed from on high - well, at least not without a nation first succumbing to a one-party state.

I'm not opposed to Poles, Romanians and folks who don't have a religion where leaving is a death sentence. Should be in their own countries. Though. Migration rates at this level are historically unheard of and very dangerous for obvious reasons.

I wouldn't say sending everyone back is a palatable idea. I'd say it is essential to minimise the lives lost if the right wing do come to power in a foreseeable black swan event. Until a fairly inevitable economic crisis brings mass unemployment back and deep public unrest, you won't see you've done wrong will you?

What the fuck are you on about now?

I'm rediscovering the ignore button for now. Just fuck off and stew in your own bile for a bit.

Loose talk costs lives. Historically rigid talk has cost even more lives. I'm here to counterbalance the mediocrity, nothing more.
