You're trying to play the usual deflection that not all modern feminists think one way. I agree with that, which is why I'm referring to the prevailing view, which is the wacko progressive leftist view. That's what is dominating modern feminism. Not exclusively, of course, but prevailing.
you said "modern feminists, no".

The progressive leftist version of feminism (which has a certain amount of crazy stuff associated with it) probably dominates most western academic feminist courses and debate, but that is not the same as being the key feature of feminism in general.

Not necessarily. Folks mock Trump for having a tiny todger because he has small hands. Is that sexist?
No.
He has a small dick, and compensates for this by acting like one.

Yeah, never seen a more likely candidate to have a small dick. Would explain a lot.

It is evidence of it being a key feature of feminism in general. Certainly moreso than declarations that "I and the feminists I know don't believe that..."

I've asked for folks to identify the voices of the "feminism in general" that is supposedly so reasonable and normal. Germaine Greer is what I got. Is there another? Anyone else? What book should I read to get the "reasonable feminist in general" view on things? What sources should I look to.

There is this strange tendency among people who so want to declare themselves to be feminists that they simply hand-wave away all the major feminist works -- writings -- other published material -- major feminist speakers and figures enunciating feminist principles -- all of it is thrown away and declared "Not True Feminism."

What's true feminism? Oh, well, equal opportunity and equal rights, that's all. Nothing more. Just that. Right? Fine -- if that's the assertion -- where are the source materials? Citations please.

Look, it's plain that I'm consistently referring to the prevailing fucking view. Yes, the prevailing views of modern feminists is in accord with what I'm describing. It is not in accord with what you are describing, which is a minority view -- there are some folks who identify as feminists who are mere equal rights feminists who desire equal opportunity and equal rights for both sexes, and equal treatment under the law for both sexes. But, when you examine the views of prevailing and leading modern feminists - read their books and articles -- they do not limit themselves to that - they hold views exactly like I've described (because I'm citing them and referring to exactly what they're saying).

I did ask.

But, I'll ask again - who are the leading voices of "feminism in general" that are supposedly reasonable and normal? Who do you look to for the feminism you subscribe to? What citations can you give?

Feel free to give a straight answer.

AGAIN you miss the point. I didn't imply you didn't ask. What you didn't do is get Greer as an example of mainstream feminism.

I'm not interested in academic feminism. I'm interested in equality for women. And virtually everyone I know from the left supports that. You might like to define feminism as academic feminism, but I don't subscribe to that view.

Oh, ok - then I ask again - give me the names and/or citations to works enunciating mainstream feminism.

Greer was the only name I was given. If she's not an example of mainstream feminism, then fair enough. I have no examples so far.
rEvolutionist wrote:

I'm not interested in academic feminism.
Give me the leading voices of feminism in general that are supposedly reasonable and normal - the voices and citations regarding mainstream, reasonable, rational feminism. The feminism that I'm ignoring or missing ......
rEvolutionist wrote: I'm interested in equality for women.
Who gives a shit what you're interested in? Just because YOU are interested in equality for women, that doesn't mean you are espousing mainstream, reasonable, rational, feminism. I am egalitarian in that respect, too. That doesn't make it mainstream feminism.
rEvolutionist wrote: And virtually everyone I know from the left supports that.
Oh, so, that must mean it's mainstream feminism then, because you and the people you know are all like, "women should be equal" so that must be the True Feminism.
rEvolutionist wrote: You might like to define feminism as academic feminism, but I don't subscribe to that view.
So define it -- surely, if there is a mainstream feminism that most feminists adhere to, someone is writing or talking about it. No? Is there no citation to a work on the real feminism you're referring to? Is there no leading voice of sanity, that agrees with you and all the True Feminists you know?

If you can't name one - if you can't cite one published work -- can you really say that your personal view of feminism is the True Feminism - the mainstream one that most everyone adheres to?

Can't seem to reply to that inline with tapatalk. So:

"who gives a shit what I am interested in?"

You, obviously, as you keep asking me.

Mainstream feminism is clearly going to be what most people subscribe to. Quoting one or ten or fifty authors is meaningless. When nearly everyone I know and everyone of intelligence in the media supports social equality for women, which is what feminism literally is, then I accept that as mainstream.

Look up Australia's new commissioner for woman's equality. Can't remember her name, but I mentioned it in a post last week. I saw her Press Club Address last week and it was eminently reasonable. I would post a video of it but the press club charges for a copy.

I haven't asked what you're interested in. I've asked for examples of voices and/or citations to works espousing the good, true, mainstream feminism you're referring to. Obviously, you don't know of any. You know nothing about the topic.
rEvolutionist wrote:

So, prove what the feminism is that most people subscribe to. Surely, if most people subscribe to it, someone has written about it and someone leads the voices of the "most" you're referring to.
rEvolutionist wrote: Quoting one or ten or fifty authors is meaningless.
False. That's called proof. I suppose you could say that no authors have written about the true mainstream feminism. Is that what you're saying? Or, you just don't want to cite anybody?
rEvolutionist wrote: When nearly everyone I know and everyone of intelligence in the media supports social equality for women, which is what feminism literally is, then I accept that as mainstream.
Saying you support "social equality" is a bumper sticker. The Devil is in the details. What does "social equality" entails? Cite your sources.

Saying "nearly everyone I know and everyone of intelligence in the media supports social equality for women" doesn't prove that that's what mainstream, majority feminism really is. It's a statement of your position, not an argument in support of that position.

So far, you've made an assertion and supported it with absolutely nothing.

Cite your sources. "Go look it up" is not that.

I'd actually like to see evidence that a small cadre of vocal, sanctimonious, internet feminists is mainstream, not by posting articles by this lot, but rather by posting polls which show the popularity of the extreme views.

As for mainstream feminists; Naomi Klien, Alice Roberts, Olivia Judson, Lisa Randall, Ellen Page.. etc. Hell even The Spice Girls.
