Pointing out that you repeatedly miss simple points that have been made repeatedly in a thread is not "evasion and obfuscation". I pretty much have to do this for you in every major thread we debate in. I'm sick to death of it. Why is it you can't fucking read what is written and keep it in mind when you make posts down the line in a thread? Why do I have to repeatedly waste my time making the same point to you (no one else, other than Seth, displays this problem) over and over and over again in a thread, and in the end have to end up posting links to the points you aren't getting? I only end up posting those links because you start up with your bullshit that I am being evasive etc. Yet thread after thread when I have to do this, you do it again in new threads. The reason I don't initially post those links is that I'm hoping that in one fucking thread some fucking day you will stop with the disingenuous bullshit and actually address what is written, instead of addressing the strawmen your biased brain keeps throwing up. I think that makes me insane. Doing the same thing over and over again hoping for a different outcome. I need sedation..

You don't "point out" any points that I've missed, repeatedly or otherwise. You make an assertion that I've missed points, and then you don't set forth what that "point" is. Knowing you, it was probably either: (a) not really the point at all, or (b) you didn't really make the point you're now saying I missed, or (c) it was a really stupid point. You use your allegation that "Forty Two missed the point" as a way to start arguing about something other than the point -- you want to argue about whether someone missed the point as opposed to just getting to the fucking point.

You don't "have to" drone on like you do about missing points or other non-argument-related issues. That's what you choose to do. Given your admission that you identify people as undesirables and then hound them until you drive them off the site, or get suspended yourself, it's probably part of your practice to do this kind of thing. It's just who you are.

Knowing the points you have made, they tend to be offered without evidence and are not presented in a cogent way. You are also under the mistaken impression that your bald, unsupported assertions somehow control the subject-matter of a thread. Because you said something, you think everyone else should take notice of it. It's like you think your points and arguments are strong. Where do you get that idea?

I still am confused by that logic. I mean I understand why someone knowing other people are getting pregnant when they want to can be painful, but that goes for every day of the year. Is it because it is put in the form of a joke? Still don't understand how that makes it any different. I mean shouldn't you then also avoid posting real pregnancy announcements, or birth announcements or heck anything to do with your children?

Indeed, Rachel, I would think that even a real pregnancy announcement would be just as problematic. Like, a facebook celebration and Bill and Mary are pregnant! Woo hoo! That is problematic for people who can't get pregnant or who are having trouble getting pregnant. By the same token, it might be problematic for those that don't like babies at all, and don't want them.

I just read that the University of New Hampshire published a guide to problematic language -- terms such as "American," "homosexual," "illegal alien," "Caucasian," "mothering," "fathering," and "foreigners," are deemed "problematic." LOL. See. Mothering and fathering themselves are problematic terms!

I raised an eyebrow at Caucasian. Not sure why that's problematic.

Saying “American” to reference Americans is also problematic. The guide encourages the use of the more inclusive substitutes “U.S. citizen” or “Resident of the U.S.” To all the non-Murricans out there....err, I mean, the non-U.S. Citizens or non-residents of the US -- this stuff applies to you too. I mean, calling a German a German is problematic. You are citizens of Germany or residents of Germany.

The word "healthy" is also problematic.

I have noticed that a lot of people are insistent that you can't joke about a given group, or subject. To me, that is singling out in a worse way than joking about it.

For instance, if you forbade joking about women, because rachelbean might be upset by it, would you not (as rachelbean) be a bit bothered by the different treatment?

I think singling out any group, be they a racial group, rape victims or politicians, by making it unacceptable to joke about them, would be like saying they were too weak or frail to be treated like anyone else.

I have known members of ALL those groups who were strong, weak, or anywhere in between.
