I'm reading a book called Adventures in the Anthropocene now. It's about how human activity is shaping the planet such that it is creating its own geolgical epoch called the "Anthropocene". That is if future generations, or any other intelligence that comes along after our demise, were to look at the geological column they would see a stratum marked by man. They would notice in this layer rapid deforestation, land upheaval, climate change, mass exitinction and sediments of plastic and concrete foundations.

The book details how many people across the World are dealing with such rapid change and some of the innovations they are coming up with to cope. I've only read the first chapter, but it deals with a guy in Nepal who lives in the Himalayas. Due to global warming the glaciers above his and surrounding villages has retreat by 2km in the last couple of decades. And due to earlier warm weather the glacier melt is completely off-set from the usual time of the year that villagers use this melt for irrigation. So this fellow came up with the ingenious idea to create mini, artificial glaciers which allow water to trickle down in a controlled way.

In case you hadn't noticed, the Earth isn't a jamjar. It's not a closed system, it's wide open.
And it has clouds, gigantic storms, oceans, volcanoes, all sorts of things happening.

Half of the Earth is bathed in sunlight at any one time. And the other half is facing a freezing void. So the Earth is receiving a gigantic dose of Energy every day. And radiating exactly the same amount back out. Or we would be cooking by now.
There is a natural balance that is NOT fully understood, it's incredibly complicated, unlike your jam jar.

What's the effect of trapping more heat? Does it increase the rate of radiation at night? Does it cause more turbulence, leading to heat loss high up?

Look at the Sahara. You have warming of up to forty degrees in the day, and cooling of up to forty degrees at night. Over a 24 hour period ! The more heating, the more cooling.

Yes I did know that. AND YET, did you know that water vapour is a greenhouse gas, and deserts have less humidity? And yet they warm up bloody quick in the daytime.

So it's not as simple as your jamjar is it? If it was, the models would have been accurate.
You could work the climate out with a pencil. Not a fucking great bank of computers, that still can't produce an accurate model of the climate.

You're making no sense. We can't predict exact temperatures because the system is chaotic. But that doesn't mean all of a sudden the fundamentals stop working. If you put more greenhouse gas in the atmosphere you will have more greenhouse effect. This is the basics. If you can't even accept that, then there's not much point going on.
