North Korea Sentences US Tourist 15 Years Hard Labor

Wow, 15 years for attempting steal a poster. 15 years hard labor in the DPRK is a death sentence. Hope they get him out of there. If he tried to take the poster, though, he's a fucking moron. Still wouldn't deserve this punishment, but who goes to North Korea and steps out of line? Makes me wonder if he really did it.

He broke the law of the land. America certainly wouldn't go easy on a foreigner if one committed a pretty silly crime even if the sentence was a potential death sentence for the person. Remember that autistic man your government demanded be extradited for alleged hacking?

Thankfully Britain refused.

And let's not forget those victims of ridiculous, three strike laws, some of them doing 25 years for shoplifting!

Well, we aren't sure if he broke the law of the land. The DPRK says he broke the law of the land, but other than his confession, which the DPRK is known to obtain through unsavory means, the press has not released any evidence.

Autistic doesn't mean retarded, and so seeking to extradite autistic suspects not in and of itself wrong. McKinnon was accused of hacking into 97 United States military and NASA computers over a 13-month period between February 2001 and March 2002, at his girlfriend's aunt's house in London, using the name 'Solo'. The US authorities stated he deleted critical files from operating systems, which shut down the United States Army’s Military District of Washington network of 2,000 computers for 24 hours. McKinnon also posted a notice on the military's website: "Your security is crap". After the September 11 attacks in 2001, he deleted weapons logs at the Earle Naval Weapons Station, rendering its network of 300 computers inoperable and paralyzing munitions supply deliveries for the US Navy's Atlantic Fleet. McKinnon was also accused of copying data, account files and passwords onto his own computer. US authorities stated the cost of tracking and correcting the problems he caused was over $700,000. And, he admitted to posting a threat on a military computer using the name Solo.

So, the US sought extradition, through legal process, and ultimately because McKinnon was thought to be a risk of suicide, the British authorities denied extradition and the US has had to live with that.

So, sure, exactly the same thing as a 21 year old being accused of attempting, unsuccessfully, to steal a propaganda poster and being sentenced to 15 years of hard labor in a prison camp where people routinely have to eat bugs and rats to stay alive and who die of disentary and starvation in large numbers. Hacking military computers and causing hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of damage and a country seeking extradition so that the case can be brought to court is pretty much the same thing.

Yeah, well, that's California for you. Just like North Korea.

Lil' Kim is missing a huge potential revenue source, I'd pay for some NK propaganda posters. I want one where the curiously effeminate American soldiers are banging nails into some chick's head. It would look great behind my bar.
Yeah well that's just, like, your opinion, man.

I'd love to go there. In an increasingly homogenised world, where the same shops and culture and rampant capitalism of one sort or another are more or less everywhere it is a truly unique place. It won't last too long as it is either so if you want to see it go now!

..after you.

Some white men might be black. And no one here bothered to adjust the contrast of my monolith in PS to detect the hidden message...hinting when I'd return? :read:
