The Poms have this fantasy that if they leave, Europe will beg them to come back.

Europe should tell them in no uncertain terms that they won't be welcome, and they can take back all the expat Brits living in Sunny Spain.

Now that would create a refugee crisis.

Oh, I guess we'll keep the expats we have in Southwest France, maybe just demand more red tape from them.

British expats coming back to spend their money here?

How awful for the British economy. What ever shall we do?

Of course, Spain will be better off without those troublesome spenders.

"An Englishman will burn his bed to catch a flea" - old Turkish proverb.

But since the Scots, Welsh and Northern Irish are otherwise inclined, it will take close to a 60% Exit vote in England for Brexit to happen.

I really don't even understand why it's gone to a referendum when the implications of such a choice are so far reaching. It scares me that by next year the UK will not be part of the EU and America will have a president Trump :|~
Probably because his hand was forced by the Euro-skeptic wing of the Conservative party, as well as the prospect of losing electoral ground to those even further right (UKIP, etc.). It's still a bat-shit crazy move IMHO, but then I would say that as in Irish person. If the UK leaves the EU, it will be a major blow for Ireland.

Ironically, keeping Scotland in the UK will work against those seeking to leave the EU.

Yeah, we're only in this position because Cameron had to promise his Euro-sceptic wing a referendum to secure their support. Now the Tories are effectively in open conflict - having managed to just about keep a lid on that since Thatcher was knifed in the back. Whatever happens in the vote the Tories are not going to be able to put that Genie back in the bottle now.

Well that last bit's not true, is it? If Cameron wins the vote, back in the bottle is straight where the genie will be going.

The Eurosceptics are not just going to tug their forelocks, sit down and shut up if Cameron wins.

A referendum result is a bit of an effective weapon to shut them up isn't it?

Like with the Scots Nationalists?

The Scottish Nationalists were on their first referendum. The Brexitters are on their second.

The more referendums you have, the harder it is to say the result was wrong. So yes, it's much easier to put the genie back in the bottle.

I don't see any sign of the national mood swinging towards staying in.
Cameron's concessions mean fuck-all to most people. I don't think that many people believe that they would make the slightest bit of difference.

Now that it's being freely debated, I think that the out people are winning the debate.
( although that doesn't mean that they're right, who the fuck knows that? )

I just had a look at the betting odds though, and it's still HEAVILY odds on that we will vote to stay in. You can get 2.5 to 1 if you want to bet that we leave.

Either that's fantastic odds, and I should be putting all my money on leaving, or the gamblers know something I don't. I've never been a gambler, but I do think that the betting market means something. People putting big money on staying in, are betting £7 to win £2.

If they have the balls to do that, I haven't got the balls to bet against them.
