Well, if I have basis to believe something is idiotic I will say so. Now either there is no basis or there is. Its not my fault there is basis more often than not. Its not my fault people act like idiots.

edit: Tell me, how do you call it? People are to make the most important decision in decades, and they believe without basis. That is like religious people. How do you call them properly? I call them idiots.

Who says they believe without basis?? More strawmen from you?

You seem to adopt a farcical position towards debate. That is, there's no point in debating/discussing anything unless there are clear answers available. When we are talking about sociological or political outcomes, there often aren't any "right" answers, only "less wrong" answers. But to get to that point, you've got to have a discussion of the relevant points first.

No you were told it was hard to make a prediction. Words... they mean things.

Essentially, the debate can not be other than wooly, and full of subjectivity, without better, disinterested predictions of the concrete effects of a British withdrawal, rather than biased speculation by one side or the other. Whether such predictions are even possible I simply do not know...

Social and political outcomes are always going to be subjective. That doesn't mean we can't debate them to reach more reasonable outcomes.

Sure, but in this particular case, proponents of leaving and proponents of staying are going to make arguments that rely heavily on what they allege will happen if Britain stays or goes. Those assessments of actual consequences will be highly coloured by their convictions. Something like an independent, international panel of economists and others could report on the 2 different scenarios, and the likely consequences, as objectively as possible, which would then inform the debate.

But it's never going to be objective, even if you have a panel of economists. Economics, like other social sciences, relies on the decisions of complex individuals. It's inherently subjective when it comes to large scale complex systems. That's why economics is so hopeless at predicting anything.

There are degrees, however. I would expect an answer with a better chance of being accurate from an independent panel from non-EU countries than the predictions from either camp in this situation, particularly since it is a very emotionally charged issue.

Of course, likely economic and political consequences are not the only basis for arriving at a decision, but it would be a useful counterbalance to the purely partisan arguments of either side.
