That wall failed to keep the Mongols and Manchu out.

Cease assets of illegals working in the country as those assets were derived through criminal means.
Higher visa fees for "legal" Mexicans entering the country.
Fines for illegal entry
The assets of 15 million harvesters, lawn mowers and domestic helpers might pay for 80 miles of wall, higher visa fees and fines for illegal entry for another two. Assets owned by criminals, those that can be located within the US and confiscated, will add another two miles. The rest of the funds will come out of US tax payers. The Chinese certainly never got any money out of the Mongols or the Manchu for their wall's construction.

Most of the cost of construction will be materials and equipment.

I wouldn't even mind if the US paid for it, rough estimates on Berlin Wall construction in present day dollars was $200M, 20 times longer $4Billion. Or the approximate cost of schooling only half a million illegal alien children for one year. Even at $40B I'd consider it money well spent.

Saudi Arabia has a 600 mile long triple fence with a road running along it on the Iraq border. That might be the cheaper smarter option.
A rational skeptic should be able to discuss and debate anything, no matter how much they may personally disagree with that point of view. Discussing a subject is not agreeing with it, but understanding it.

because you don't want to fuck with the mexes... they are better armmed than the Afghan were, and if the afghan were able to roll back the Red Steamroller, you can bet that the US army won't be able to conquer Mexico... they still haven't digested the last war, and the drug cartels will side with the federales to push the gringos back.

Are you seriously suggesting that a candidate for the US presidency is suitable for the job when one of his few concretely announced policies is to expel all of the 10 or 15 million Mexicans, build a 3,145 km (1,954 miles) long wall to keep them out and make Mexico pay for it? Apart from the utter absurdity of it, has Trump even spent a minute speculating about the consequences such as how the US will cope without harvesters, lawn mowers and domestic helpers?
In all fairness, expelling illegals would not expel harvesters, because seasonal workers come to the US legally. There is a special category under NAFTA originated rules that apply to those folks.

Lawn mowers and landscaping services are typically legitimate, legal folks. I live in Florida, and my landscaping company is owned and run by Americans. The one I had previously was owned and run by an immigrant, yes, but he was from England. The vast majority of domestic helpers are legal, too. The US would manage just fine without the ones who came here on visas and overstayed, or the ones who crossed the Rio Grande.

Now, expelling 10 or 15 million illegal aliens is damn near impossible and building a wall, I think, is un-American. But, the notion that the US is a country like any other and has the right to control its borders is not. At the moment, the US has among the most porous borders. We certainly accept the most legal immigrants on an absolute and per capita basis than any other country in the world and even if we shut down illegal immigration, that would still be true.

No other country is asked to tolerate the degree of illegal immigration the US is. If the same percentage of the French, German or British populations were flooding into those countries as are flooding into the US, it would be seen as totally reasonable for those countries to do something about it.

If you really need more... I mean, if you really, really need more. I mean if you seriously, really need more. I can do that. I shouldn't have to. It's pretty self-explanatory, but if you insist on beating a dead horse, then I can pick a news story from almost any day.
Yeah, that's pretty much my view. Sometimes I think Coito lives under a rock. Stuff that is common knowledge or self-evident to most people is totally foreign to him. It's bizarre.
Clearly, folks have a difference of opinion on Trump. It's not like he has only a small amount of support.

Well, according to free market theory wages for those jobs will go up. Most of Trump's plan to expel the illegals is to just enforce the current law. After a few dozen human resource ladies are arrested and jailed by the FBI for hiring illegals, all companies will refuse to hire them. Then they just leave.
Whenever an American company hires a person, they are supposed to fill out an I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification and the worker is supposed to present proof that they are eligible to work in the US. It's supposed to be done for everyone, citizens and non-citizens alike. If you can't produce the docs, then it's illegal for the company to keep the you working. Enforcement is nonexistent, though.

It's possible he's using a different metric for buffoonery than I am I realised last night. If that's the case then there's not much else to say.
Well, right - who knows. You know, like, I think Hillary is a liar, and unfit to be commander in chief. However, if asked why, I would explain why I think that, even if I think it's self-evident. That's the whole point of discussion boards. To discuss. To challenge or discuss even our most certainly held beliefs.

Maybe Trump can get with Bernie on this. The Bern wants a massive federal jobs program to "put the American people back to work." I guess he doesn't get that the economy and unemployment have been fixed already, But, why not take Bern's federal jobs program and send it to the border to build the fence?

Yet, that is precisely what Trump announced he is going to do. In light of the question you posed here let me ask again: Are you seriously suggesting that a candidate for the US presidency is suitable for the job when one of his few concretely announced policies is to expel all of the 10 or 15 million Mexicans, build a 3,145 km (1,954 miles) long wall to keep them out and make Mexico pay for it?
