Zika virus: Outbreak 'likely to spread across Americas' says WHO
The Zika virus is likely to spread across nearly all of the Americas, the World Health Organization has warned.
The infection, which causes symptoms including mild fever, conjunctivitis and headache, has already been found in 21 countries in the Caribbean, North and South America.
It has been linked to thousands of babies being born with underdeveloped brains and some countries have advised women not to get pregnant.
No treatment or vaccine is available.

This is the saddest story for years. I'm cynical about most things, but to see babies born less than perfect does get to me.
And even sadder, it's happening in countries that frown on or forbid abortion, where the catholic church wields the political power.
This mosquito is hard to guard against, because it bites in the daytime.
The malarial mosquito bites at night, when you can guard against it with a net.
But it's pretty difficult to guard against one that likes houses and bites during the day.
Perhaps they can develop an effective repellent, that pregnant women can douse themselves in, although that might have it's own dangers.
While there is a market for shit, there will be assholes to supply it.

No vaccine for it yet, but there is an ethical dilemma in using it on people who can't possible get sick (ie men and a large % of women) to protect those who can (ie women of child bearing age)
When only criminals carry guns the police know exactly who to shoot!
that's assuming that being infected once when "safe" protects you from the side effects later, the disease is too new for us to know anything about that, for all we know it makes women barren or unable to bear normal children.
Only an ethical dilemma in Jonno's selfish world view...

A rational skeptic should be able to discuss and debate anything, no matter how much they may personally disagree with that point of view. Discussing a subject is not agreeing with it, but understanding it.
