So you think that the Roman Catholic Church supinely accepted first the reformation, which by schism automatically weakened its worldly power, and then the inevitable revolt by secular rulers at its attempts to maintain control of kingdoms and nations? Do you think it just shrugged its shoulders ate the enlightenment, and the growing realisation by more and more people that it didn't have either a monopoly on truth, or the ability to use the violent suppression of the past to support its rule?
