I think that when you look at the bigger picture (evolution of the number of sexual assaults on women over the last decades) you will certainly see a decrease.

Some local highs among recent immigrants won't change that trend. It was politicians from Merkel's party that still fought making rape in marriage a crime less than 20 years ago.

Also, there are still gaps in the criminal code that prevent prosecution for sexual assaults that do not include intrusion of the body. Most of the assaults reported in Cologne (like simply touching private parts) are still not a crime in Germany. Guess who is opposed to making that a crime? The conservative people in Merkel's party that are the most outspoken against refugees.

There definitely was some intentional obfuscation at the start. The city's police chief, the mayor and the media at large were denying the role of immigrants as much as they could by insisting that asylum seekers were not the cause of the trouble.

What ought to be obvious to anyone with a brain, is that you will never get the true picture reported. What people want to know is, how many were foreign, or of foreign extraction. I'm willing to bet that they ALL are.

They say, "so many were German citizens" blah blah.
Double speak. That's not what people want to know. Black German Muslim immigrants can come under that label, and so can their kids.

Germany is now like Sweden. Reporting that an immigrant committed a crime is verboten.
