Philosophy does a lot of work 'prototyping' ideas which science can come along later and investigate.

Sounds good but I can't think of any examples of that.

Well other than everything that is modern science, how about.. sociology or psychology? Those two still have strong ties with philosophy.

I can use the files, cheers. What I cant do is read text you style black on the mobile as I use the white-on-black setting to save battery.

Oh right. Thank, that's news to me. I use my mobile about twice a year, to make a call, so I don't know anything about looking at web pages on one.

Well, modern science is founded on previous science. Early scientists were often philosophers as well.
But that was excusable, as they were ignorant of practically everything.
If philosophy is speculating about what you don't know, you don't need any training in philosophy to do that. Everybody does it. It's human nature. And what have sociology and psychology achieved?
A mixture of woo and the bleedin obvious.

Speculating about what you don't know? See above. We all do it.
You don't need to be a trained philosopher to bullshit. But I suppose it helps.

What about the philosophy of science? Holy weirding christ - good stuff though. How we know what we know is what there is to be known :hehe: how do we justify claims of science yada, yada.

Science is based on philosophy. Science deals in epistemology, not ontology. That's a philosophical distinction.

And 'psychology has revealed the "bleeding obvious"'?? Psychology has shattered the still widespread folk-psychology beliefs held by the general public. A couple of examples are human rationality, free will and dualism. Ask most regular folk and they'd laugh at you if you suggested they make silly irrational mistakes based on simple concepts kids could understand when they are explained to them, or that they don't have free will or that there is no such thing as a soul/homunculus/ or whatever other wibble people tend to believe in.
