Favorite Musical?

Post by Forty Two » Fri Dec 04, 2015 4:58 pm

I generally hate musicals.

But, I do like Hair.

It may be the only musical I do like.

“When I was in college, I took a terrorism class. ... The thing that was interesting in the class was every time the professor said ‘Al Qaeda’ his shoulders went up, But you know, it is that you don’t say ‘America’ with an intensity, you don’t say ‘England’ with the intensity. You don’t say ‘the army’ with the intensity,” she continued. “... But you say these names [Al Qaeda] because you want that word to carry weight. You want it to be something.” - Ilhan Omar

I'm a fan of non-camp Gilbert and Sullivan. HMS Pinafore and Pirates of Penzance are my favourites.

I couldn't say I was a musicals fan, but as a student of comedy, it is impossible to ignore the genius of Gilbert and Sullivan.

Generally I don't see the need for film or stage characters to break into song. The only musical I've ever found tolerable is Oliver!
People think "queue" is just "q" followed by 4 silent letters.

But those letters are not silent.

They're just waiting their turn.

For someone who keeps claiming to dislike all musicals I surprised myself the other day by how many of them I found among my DVDs. Fiddler on the Roof, My Fair Lady, Moulin Rouge...

I know. I have switched autocorrect off on every program or device I have ever owned because of this sort of slip up. The squiggly line under a word alleged to be misspelt is preferable because it lets you decide if and how to correct it. Same with auto-complete. The pox on both their houses.

Trailer for Hedwig:

I actually love musicals though, my absolute favourites apart from the aformentioned: Singing in the Rain, Cabaret, and White Christmas :)
