9 1/2 Weeks

Post by Jason » Fri Nov 20, 2015 7:33 am

The scene right after Kim Basinger admits to being a nosy parker when Mickey Rourke returns home and they get into a bit of a wrestle and he forcibly starts to fuck her; I have to ask, is that what would be called rape today? :ask:

No, it was a pretend movie. The Fifty Shades of Grey of its era...all fictional. :read:

Yes, yes, yes. But the point is the reality of the cinema, not the ephemeral real the actors dance in. I could say it differently; did Mickey Rourke's character, in the mind of a modern viewer with today's conception of rape, initiate rape against Kim Basinger's character in that scene? They were engaged in a physical struggle when he forced himself into her after positioning her and tearing off her panties - her struggling against him all the while and crying out 'no' in what seemed like a genuine combination of denial, fear, and anger.

So was what was portrayed considered rape and is it considered rape now? I think the answer is 'no' and 'maybe - probably' respectively.

A more interesting question is where will it all end? Say 10 or 15 years from now? Will this be considered a historical sex crime? Will Kim Bassinger run short of cash and sue the director, or even Mickey Rourke himself in a later day re-run of Deep Throat allegations like Linda Lovelace? I keep following the money, makes things like this easier to understand.... :read:

Hmm. Interesting point. Very esoteric, but I get it.

Then there's all those movies from the 40s and 50s where the guy forces the girl to kiss him. She struggles and maybe even slaps him but then her own desire is inflamed and she kisses him right back.

There were some films with precisely that scenario made between between the mid sixties and the mid seventies with similar scenes as well. Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (1969) comes to mind, and I have seen a more blatant one with Clint Eastwood in one of his spaghetti westerns on Youtube a few months ago. Also, one involving Charles Bronson. It won't surprise me if I discovered there were more.

Talking of actors noticed in the news how a woman masquerading as a man got eight years for rape last week, despite no one getting preggie, and this week cops masquerading as men got some women preggie and they walk....where's the gender equality? :read: :read:
