That's not my experience with most ratz I've talked to. Not many were raised in as strong of an evangelical Christian background as I was but most were brought up in religious households of some form or another. But, yeah, that's just my experience from having actual conversations with people...DaveDodo007 wrote:The only reason most ratz members are atheist are is that they were not brought up in a religious household because they have no clue to what skepticism is.

We had a poll about that. From memory the majority of this forum's member's was brought up in a religious environment. Having been raised by parents both of whom wer pracricing catholics I am part of that majority.

My parents were nominal presbyterians or anglicans but never went to church or did anything particularly religious.
But they would have classed themselves as christians, I expect, although we never really talked about it...

My parents both had very strong beliefs, though they didn't talk about them since my mum was a Timelord and my father a Dalek.

Nor is it mine, I didn't know my parents to be overly religious, but they sure took care that I be educated in christianity, baptized etc...rachelbean wrote:That's not my experience with most ratz I've talked to. My parents were just the same as JimC. I was baptised in the Holy Catholic Church of England as it was then called.
They never went to church.

Me too. My family used to kneel in a circle and say the rosary when we were kids, and all of the uncles and aunts were strong believers all their lives.Hermit wrote:LOL. I am starting to think that all of those crazy feminists that Dave talks about (all apparently) have met him personally and that is the reason they hate men. They, like Dave, just project his behaviour on all men like he does with feminists.

Re: Why creationists can laugh at atheist feminists?
I think there is room for agreement here on this thread.
There are many many Christians, and the great majority of them are not, in fact, Creationists. Anglicans, Catholics, and other denominations are expressly not creationists, viewing Genesis as metaphorical. And, many Christian denominations leave beliefs about the origin of the universe to be a function of science and individual conscience, which makes sense because there is nothing in Christian dogma that requires a "literal" interpretation of the Book of Genesis.
However, we can certainly lambaste Creationists all day long, and nobody wrings their hands over whether folks are sully "all Christians" with that minority belief.
The same goes for feminism. The majority of "feminists" are, it seems to me, rather milquetoast, just like the majority of Christians. I suspect most feminists are of the mind that what is desired is equal treatment under the law for women and men, irrespective of sex. The problem is Creationists and so called radical feminists are the loud and leading parts of their respective groups. Creationists publish and talk more, argue more, and argue loudest. Radical feminists are the ones out there screaming like banshees, and then they take cover under the "moderate" notion of "all feminism means is equal rights, what's so wrong with that."
Well, what's so wrong with it is that it winds up coming across as a bait-and-switch relative to the movement as a whole. You see feminists shutting down men's rights conferences, petitioning to ban speakers who they don't like, advocating trigger warnings, suggesting "women speak first" in classrooms and at conferences, suggesting that tampons should be free, suggesting that women should be paid more for the same job (with same experience and education), suggesting that men be taxed more, that rules be created barring men from peeing standing up in public access restrooms, that men have permission to say hi, that men close their legs when sitting on a train, that Christmas is sexist because women wrap more of the presents that men, that video games are sexist, that a man wearing the wrong bowling shirt should be browbeaten into a public apology, that a man who says that there is sexual tension between women and men in laboratories should be fired, that women are "most affected by climate change," science is sexist, logic is sexist, STEM is sexist, Mars colonies are sexist, meritocracy is sexist, the primary victims of war are women (because they have live on after their men are killed), monogamy is sexist, fatherhood turns men into sexists, words like "bossy" need to be banned, art is sexist, video games are sexist, magic the gathering is sexist, the game of chess is sexist, air conditioning is sexist...men wearing ties....criticism of Hillary Clinton....Arguments that college is sexist against women, even though they make up almost 2/3 of the student body.
These are things that are published in mainstream news sources day in and day out. When lies are foisted to foster an ideology, it sullies the ideology.

Re: Why creationists can laugh at atheist feminists?
You're wasting your time, the majority of people on this forum have just swapped religions, though it is the godless religion of feminism aka cult. Why would people whom were immune to logical fallacies when spouted by the religious suddenly resort to them when their own religion is attacked. 'No true scotsman', 'equivocation', 'name calling', and shaming tactics. It sure looks like 2008 all over again except it is the so called rationalist using these tactics. Feminism has no problem calling out other feminists, see Christina Hoff Sommers, Camille Paglia, Cathy Young and the person in my avatar are all told they aren't feminist. Yet all the ones you named are not called to account for misrepresenting feminism mmm I wonder why. It is almost like they are fine with it, well lets face it they are. There are plenty of Christians calling out the creationist so were are all the 'equity feminists' calling out the misandrists, humourless, censorious, puritanical, anti-fact, anti evidence, anti science feminists. I certainly haven't seem them called out on this forum or anywhere else for that matter, so WHERE ARE THEY? Yet I'm strawmanning feminists.Forty Two wrote:I think there is room for agreement here on this thread.
